Bournemouth 1-2 Manchester City result – Pep Guardiola's men come from behind to book FA Cup semi-final spot

A telling half-time substitution, Pep Guardiola sending on Nico O'Reilly for Abdukodir Khusanov, changed the game and helped Manchester City overturn Bournemouth's 1-0 lead.

They now face Nottingham Forest in their seventh FA Cup last-four appearance on the trot.

The home side were superior in the early stages but it was still the visitors who created the better chances.

On 13 minutes they ought to have taken the lead after Tyler Adams' foul on Bernardo Silva earned them a penalty, but Kepa Arrizabalaga saved well from Erling Haaland.

Then, shortly afterwards, Haaland went through one on one only to lift his finish over the bar, and shortly after that, Evanilson gave Bournemouth the lead. 

But immediately the second half started, City took over, O'Reilly picking a terrific cross for Haaland to slide in an equaliser before, on 63 minutes, a cunning prod allowed Omar Marmoush, another sub, to send what turned out to be the winner under Kepa's weak dive.

A game of two halves. The introduction of O'Reilly changed things and City move on to face Forest in their seventh FA Cup semi on the trot.

And is booked.

They'll meet Forest in the last four. That could be a really fun match, Nuno's men having the ideal style to discomfit Guardiola's.

CITY SHOULD MAKE IT SAFE

They pick a route through the Bournemouth defence, eventually seeing De Bruyne's shot from the edge blocked, the ball breaking to McAtee, who takes a decent first touch that shifts it and looks to have opened a shooting lane, but Kepa dives to make a decent save with his body.

Can Bournemouth find something?

Who can't help himself, charging in then, when he's beaten, extends a leg to send knee into thigh. He's booked.

Bournemouth have created nothing. And though City have improved, they've not been devastating; they've just used the ball economically, while their opponents have hit the wall.

Bournemouth have totally listless this half. I guess their style depends on freshness and at this stage of the season perhaps it's taking its toll; they've also badly missed Huijsen and, in particular, Kerkez.

Gonzalez and McAtee for Gundogan and Kovacic. I'm a little surprised Guardiola is happy to be without their experience in closing stages that could become extremely fraught.

Holding the ball as his hair glistens in the early spring sun before sliding across to Gundogan on the edge, and he uses its line of travel to sweep a low outswinger ... the vamps the foot of the far post! That was nearly curtains!

And as we enter the last 10 minutes, plenty of scope for Bournemouth to build pressure. And, as I type, they win a throw deep inside the City half, Hall bending his run-up like Graham Dilley to offset the cramped space over the touchline; City clear, counter, and narrowly avoid finding Marmoush inside the box.

And Zabarnyi heads away, then his mates combine to complete the clearance.

Kluivert hauls Nunes back and is booked, then City move up the other end anyway and win a corner down the right.

He won't want to, but perhaps he should drop deeper to get on the ball. He has to do something, because this match is running away from Bournemouth.

Bournemouth need to get men around him.
