PELLEGRINI SPOT KICK RESCUES POINT FOR ROMA AS MILAN DROP POINTS ON ROAD
Lorenzo Pellegrini’s 74th-minute penalty strike rescued a point for Roma as Gian Piero Gasperini’s side were forced to settle for their first draw of the season against an underwhelming AC Milan side at the Stadio Olimpico.
The Giallorossi came into the game with three league wins on the bounce and looked the more likely to score in a game they dominated for large parts as Massimilliano Allegri’s side struggled to assert themselves on a rainy evening in the Italian capital.
But Roma were forced to come from behind as Milan looked to steal all three points when Koni De Winter headed home the opener in the 62nd minute.
Donyell Malen had the perfect opportunity to score his second goal in as many appearances since his move from Aston Villa when he was picked out in the box before his low shot was saved by Mike Maignan inside the first minute.
End-to-end stuff in the opening five minutes would see Alexis Salemaekers played in by Adrien Rabot before the former Roma loanee’s effort was sent woefully off target.
The game’s pendulum would shortly shift in favour of the home side and remain there for much of the 90 minutes, as Malen continued to be the target in the box as his shot was blocked before minutes later connecting with Paulo Dybala’s free-kick, with his header going just wide of the post.
The best opportunity of the first half would fall to Malen once again as he chested down Evan Ndicka’s pass but failed to find the composure in front of goal as his shot edged narrowly wide, with Roma struggling to make their dominance count.

'Just guide it into the corner' - Malen misses huge chance for Roma

It was once again the Milan goalkeeper to come to the rescue for his side before the first half ended as he performed a point-blank range save to deny Celik. Malen’s follow-up went wide.
The second half would continue in the same manner before an uncharacteristic error by Roma as Ndicka's pass back to his goalkeeper went out for a corner.
From that corner, against the run of play, Milan would take the lead as a typical Luka Modric cross from a short corner was met by Koni De Winter, who headed home from close range.

Their lead would last just 12 minutes when Roma were gifted an opportunity to repair the deficit when Davide Bartesaghi was penalised for switching off and handling the ball in the box.
Substitute Lorenzo Pellegrini stepped up to take the free-kick and kept his composure from 12-yards out to power his spot-kick past Maignan to find the bottom left corner and seal Roma’s first draw in the league since April.
Milan dropped valuable points on their nearest rivals Internazionale, who now have a five-point gap in the Serie A standings following their thrilling 6-2 win over Pisa on Friday, while Roma move up to third on goal difference, after Napoli were stunned by Juventus in a 3-0 earlier on Sunday.

All square!
Calm as you like from Lorenzo Pellegrini, whose penalty has enough power to get past Maignan to find the bottom left corner.

HOW DO ROMA FIND THEMSELVES BEHIND?
That's what they'll be asking themselves as they failed to make their chances count despite their dominance.
AC Milan have undoubtedly improved but look far from their best but as any team in the hunt for the title does, they find a goal when it's unlikely.
It doesn't always look pretty from Allegri's men but winning dirty is still winning.

And just like that, against the run of play, Milan take the lead through Koni De Winter.
