AC Milan 2-1 Napoli result - 10-man Rossoneri hold on to win and go top, with Saelemaekers and Pulisic goals crucial despite De Bruyne penalty

Christian Pulisic set up one and scored another as 10-man AC Milan held on to consign Napoli to their first defeat of the Serie A season.

Milan took an early lead when the American got behind the Napoli defence and slid a cross for Belgian Alexis Saelemaekers to side-foot home at the far post.

Just after the half-hour mark the lead was doubled when Youssouf Fofana teed up Pulisic to score, via a deflection.

The Serie A champions and leaders looked like getting a point after a penalty incident which saw Pervis Estupinan sent off for pulling back Matteo Politano - and then the spot kick converted by Kevin De Bruyne.

Controversially, Antonio Conte opted to take off De Bruyne with 17 minutes remaining which, without taking away from the gallant Milan defending, seemed to make Napoli's attacks less potent.

The win sees Milan take over on top of the Serie A table on goal difference.

Napoli lose for the first time in Serie A this season. A big display of emotion from the ten men on the field and their supporters.

But Maignan parries it away to safety.

But his effort is blocked.

It rocketed towards goal and takes a slight deflection onto the outside of the post.

Coming inside from the left flank he fires an effort which Maignan saves and holds diving to his left.

Napoli laying siege to the Milan goal and Rabiot is there to block this shot.

With SEVEN Napoli players chasing him - and eventually one dispossesses him.

He brings down Lobotka just outside the right edge of the penalty area.

Loftus Cheek and De Winter come on for Fofana and Tomori.

You'd have to say another strange substitution.

But the full back heads over from eight yards.

De Bruyne, McTominay and Hojlund coming off. You'd think Milan would be happy with those substitutions.

Neres, Lucca and Elmas come on.

But the ball just runs too far through to Maignan.

Gimenez and Saelemaekers are replaced by Leao and Athekame.

It had Maignan worried for a moment as he scrambled across his line.

De Bruyne sends Maignan the wrong way from the spot, slotting the ball to the keeper's left.

He is withdrawn for Bartesaghi. De Bruyne has had a similar wait to the one Bruno Fernandes had against Brentford yesterday.

Estupinan is sent off. A real double whammy if De Bruyne scores the penalty.
