Here's the moment Afena-Gyan was sent off!
Full-time: Late drama but Roma have achieved a much-needed victory to move up to sixth in the Serie A table thanks to this 2-0 triumph over Spezia. Chris Smalling and Roger Ibanex scored their goals.
Red card! From joy to bitter disappointment in a matter of moments as Afena-Gyan puts the ball in the back of the net for what he believes is Roma's third, but the referee is blowing his whistle and rules the goal out! And wait, he's produced a red card as well! Afena-Gyan is deemed to have deliberately handled the ball in the build-up and is shown his marching orders for a second bookable offence! Mourinho is livid!
Red card
F. Afena-Gyan
Gyasi is booked for protestations.
Yellow card
E. Gyasi
Three minutes will be added on. Roma are tiring as Spezia continue to knock on the dooe.
Roma still have their clean-sheet intact but their defenders are having to work extremely hard to achieve it. It's all one-way traffic at the moment as Spezia pepper the home side's penalty area with a succession of crosses.
The frustration in the crowd is tangible - the hosts have relinquished control of the game, and were they facing better opposition, may well have paid the ultimate price.
Great chance for Spezia! Roma are living dangerously now! Bastoni stands up a pin-point cross from the left flank to find Amian but he inexplicably heads wide from a point-blank range!
Spezia win a free-kick on the left flank and chaos ensues inside the Roma penalty area. Manaj and Gyasi get in each other's way and the latter somehow fails to hit the target with the goal gaping. The linesman's flag was raised to spare the visitors' blushes.
Roma celebrate their second goal.
Vina plays the ball inside for Abraham but he takes a heavy touch and Provedel rushes off his line to take the ball from his feet.
The temptation is there for Mkhitaryan to try a first-time volley from a tight angle but instead he opts to take a touch and when he finally shoots, he scuffs his effort straight at Provedel.
Afena-Gyan believes he is fouled by Gyasi but the referee allows play to continue. Clearly frustrated, the Roma substitute bodychecks his counterpart a moment later which draws him into the book.
Yellow card
F. Afena-Gyan
Mkhitaryan has been excellent tonight and he unwinds with a shot from distance but it's always dipping over the crossbar.
Kumbella is booked for a lunge on Aguedelo. VAR has a check to see it should be upgraded to red but gives the Roma defender the benefit of doubt.
Yellow card
M. Kumbulla
And Smalling makes way for Amadou Diawara.

Felix Afena-Gyan comes on for Mayoral, who has failed to impress tonight.

The replays show Manaj was clearly offside. It's not even up for debate.
Goal ruled out! Manaj thinks he has halved the deficit but he looks suspiciously offside and although the referee initially allowed the goal to stand VAR intervenes and rules it out!
The home side's relief is tangible and perhaps they can now put on a show for the large support. Mkhitaryan drives through the middle with team mates to aim for either side but he overcooks his pass.
