The Stadio San Paolo saw Napoli come out on top 2-0. Cavani was again on target on 13 minutes with Jose Sosa scoring just after the restart.

And Napoli came out on top in both matches last season. The Azzurri ran out 4-1 winners at Cesena in September. Marco Parolo gave Cesena the lead, but Ezequiel Levezzi and Marek Hamsik replied in the first half and two from Edinson Cavani completed the rout.

But it looks to be a difficult league baptism for new Cesena boss Marco Giampoalo, who left Catania in June.

The Azzurri finished third in last season's campaign after a spirited challenge for the Serie A title and Walter Mazzari will look to get the strike-delayed season off to a flying start.
