At the Stadio Olimpico, goals from Alberto Aquilani, Ludovic Giuly and Francesco Totti gave the Giallorossi victory over a battling Siena side.

Aquilani gave Roma the lead with a super hit on 17 minutes, picking his spot and finding the back of the net via the underside of the cross bar.

The 23-year-old - who on this performance is every bit as good as his reputation as one of Serie A's most promising players - nearly doubled his tally with an equally sumptuous strike on 36 minutes, only to see his effort cannon back off the woodwork.

Roma struggled to put the game beyond Siena during the second half, but Giuly finally doubled Roma's lead with his first goal since his summer move from Barcelona with nine minutes remaining.

The Frenchman slotted home from Aquilani's deflected through ball despite the Totti - the intended recipient of the pass - being in an offside position.

The Giallorossi captain himself then sealed all three points with a typically accomplished finish in the last minute, beating Siena keeper Alex Manninger with a right footer into the bottom corner.

An eventful match in Sardinia also saw Juventus hold on to their 100% record as two red cards, two penalties and a last minute winner combined to produce a real thriller.

The first half ended goalless, but the second period exploded into life when David Trezeguet demonstrated his poaching instincts on 54 minutes, tapping home from close range after Mauro Camoranesi had forced the ball into his path.

Cagliari equalised almost immediately as Pasquale Foggia netted his first of the day from the penalty spot. The former Lazio player nearly had a chance for another just seven minutes later but the referee reversed his decision to award a spot kick for Giorgio Chiellini's tackle on Daniele Conti after consulting with his linesman.

With Cagliari on the front foot and looking the more likely of the two sides to take the lead, it came as a surprise when Alessandro Del Piero applied the finishing touch to a Camoranesi lob over Marco Fortin in the Cagliari net on 76 minutes.

But again, the hosts hit back, and again through a Foggia penalty after Jonathon Zebina brought down Uruguayan striker Joaquin Larrivey in the box. In the chaos that ensued, Zebina received his marching orders for his protestations and proceeded to take out his frustration on a photographer on the side of the pitch.

Seconds later Cagliari lost their man advantage when Cristiano Del Grosso was also sent off, and Juve defender Giorgio Chiellini went on to ruin the Isolani's day with a back post header in the last minute.

Riccardo Zampagna's penalty after 21 minutes following a foul on Antonio Langella set the home side on their way with Moris Carrozzieri wrapping up the victory midway through the second half.

Catania turned out in their home stadium for the first time since they were banned from playing there following riots which killed a policeman outside a match with Palermo in February. A minute's silence was held for the officer before kick off but the game was largely forgettable.

Palermo outfought a sorry Livorno, who lost 5-1 at Juve last weekend, with Fabrizio Miccoli in inspirational form. Leandro Rinaudo gave the visitors a 10th minute lead before former Juve forward Miccoli doubled their advantage with a textbook free kick. Miccoli soon finished off a fine move for Palermo's third and then delivered a free kick which Amauri poked home before halftime.

Livorno left keeper Marco Amelia out of the squad after a potential move to Palermo in the transfer window broke down but his replacement Alfonso De Lucia had a day to forget with second-half strikes from Fausto Rossini and Sandro Grandoni mere consolations.

Francesco Cozza grabbed a last minute equaliser for Reggina in an entertaining clash.

Nicola Amoruso scored first when he slammed home on the half hour after Torino had failed to clear their lines but the home side hit back when Alessandro Rosina took the ball off the toes of new striker partner Alvaro Recoba and coolly finished.

Former Inter and Crystal Palace forward Nicola Ventola then put Torino infront on 58 minutes although the ball looked to have gone over the byline in the build-up.

Promoted Napoli, who lost at home to Cagliari on the opening day last weekend, romped to a stunning win at Udinese. Striker Marcelo Zalayeta, a recent signing from Juventus, got off the mark for his new club on 16 minutes before Maurizio Domizzi turned in following a corner which Udinese failed to clear.

Ezequiel Lavezzi cut inside and blasted in to make it three in the second half before dreadful defending from a deflated Udinese led to Zalayeta's second and Roberto Sosa scoring the fifth.

Former Tottenham winger Reto Ziegler was sent off for the home side after a second booking late on in this goalless draw. Tommaso Rocchi had the best chance for Lazio, who qualified for the Champions League group stages in midweek after victory over Dinamo Bucharest.

The visitors again fielded 43-year-old keeper Marco Ballotta with new signing Fernando Muslera staying on bench. Antonio Cassano was also an unused substitute for Samp, who came the closest to scoring through Claudio Bellucci.
