Dinamo: Smertin can leave

Dinamo Moscow have admitted they are talking to Alexei Smertin's agent about a possible transfer back to the Premiership. Smertin, 31, has been told he can leave Dinamo just one season after returning to the Russian Premier League after his contract with Chelsea was terminated last year.

West Ham are thought to be in pole position to sign the former Russian captain, although Charlton and Fulham have also expressed an interest.

"Up to now, the club has not received any official offers," Dinamo general director Dmitri Ivanov told Sport Express.

"We are currently discussing various possibilities with Smertin's agent, which for now only concern English clubs."

Smertin - Russian footballer of the year in 1999 - spent spells on loan at Charlton and Portsmouth after his £3.4million move to Chelsea.
