Liverpool stay in race

Liverpool stayed in contention to grab second spot as they saw off West Brom 2-0 on Saturday. Robbie Fowler and Djibril Cisse both struck in the first half to see the Reds stay five points behind Manchester United, though with a game more played.

Spaniard Xabi Alonso was involved in both goals. His ball from the back found Cisse on the right flank and the French striker's cross was turned in by Fowler on seven minutes.
Alonso caught out West Brom again with a long ball seven minutes before the break, Cisse catching the home side's defence napping to round keeper Tomasz Kuszczak and slot in a second.
