Van Persie signs on

Arsenal's Dutch international forward Robin van Persie has extended his contract with the club until 2011. Van Persie - who signed for the Gunners from Feyenoord in 1994 for 4m euros - has scored nine goals this season and is viewed as a long-term replace

Van Persie said: "I've been here for 18 months, really enjoyed it and I sorted out the new contract in about two or three days.
"I am really happy to be moving to the new stadium next season."
Manager Arsene Wenger said on www.arsenal.com: "Robin has come on a lot this season.
"I feel he has matured. He is a young player with a lot of talent and has developed his team play. If he continues to do that he will be a big player.
"Robin has the class to be as good as Dennis Bergkamp."
Van Persie hit the headlines for the wrong reasons in pre-season afte being detained in his native Netherlands for a fortnight on suspicion of rape, a charge which was later dropped.
