MUNOZ MAGIC DENIES SLICK FOREST VICTORY AT ANFIELD
Víctor Munoz slammed home a stunning late equaliser as Liverpool denied Nottingham Forest a third straight win at Anfield in a breathless 2-2 Premier League draw.
After an emotional minute's applause for Liverpool, Newcastle and England icon Kevin Keegan, the visitors were the dominant force in the first half.
And they claimed a merited opener when Dan Ndoye, who had not scored in the top flight for 377 days, thumped a lovely pass from Morgan Gibbs-White into the corner of the net on 24 minutes.
Despite struggling to create, a VAR call denied Florian Wirtz the equaliser with Jeremie Frimpong deemed to be offside on 33 minutes.
Alisson then produced a world-class stop to deny Forest a 2-0 lead from a stinging Igor Jesus finish seconds before the break as the ball flew over via the bar.
That was to prove a key moment with Liverpool levelling on the hour-mark when Alexander Isak tapped home from close range after Cody Gakpo managed to give the excellent Neco Williams the slip out wide.
But Forest, patient and potent, silenced Anfield again on 70 minutes when Gibbs-White sent Alisson the wrong way from the penalty spot when referee Sam Barrott deemed the Brazil international to have felled Williams from a quick throw-in by visiting sub Liam Delap.
Liverpool saved the best until last when Munoz took one touch to swivel ahead of Murillo before smashing a venomous shot high into the net off the bar to earn Andoni Iraola's side a point from his competitive debut at Anfield.
Liverpool join local rivals Everton as only the second Premier League side to start a campaign with two 2-2 draws.
In the end, it was about the correct result, but there is no doubt Forest coach Oliver Glasner will be the happier of the two managers when they reflect upon a wonderful advert for the Premier League.
