Liverpool v Fulham - Premier League result as Andoni Iraola's side fall to drab draw and Alvaro Arbeloa's men pick up first point

Fulham held a lacklustre Liverpool to a 0-0 draw as Alvaro Arbeloa picked up his first point in charge of The Cottagers.

Andoni Iraola would have hoped his side could channel the momentum from Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid, and nearly took the lead early on when Alexander Isak fired narrowly wide from a tight angle.

Fulham nearly made Liverpool pay for a defensive error as Gonzalo Garcia caught Alisson out of position but his shot was cleared off the line by Jeremy Jacquet.

Victor Munoz nearly bagged his second league goal but his flick on from a corner was tipped away brilliantly by Bernd Leno.

Iraola threw the dice at half-time, sending on Milos Kerkez, who looked bright on the left flank but could not find a way through the stubborn Fulham defence.

Chances were few and far between in the second half, but Liverpool came close in stoppage time when Isak tried to head Dominik Szoboszlai’s corner goalwards but could not make a decent connection.

Jeremie Frimpong put a good cross in towards Rio Ngumoha in the dying embers but the teenager was blocked by Kevin.

Both sides are in Carabao Cup action next week, with Fulham travelling across the capital to West Ham, while Liverpool host Tottenham.

Fulham pick up their first point of the season to move out of the relegation zone for the time being, while Liverpool remain sixth, unbeaten but with three draws from four.

Liverpool goalkeeper speaking to the Premier League: "It was a poor performance.

"Collectively, we didn't play well. I think many things we tried to do, we couldn't do it well.

"Obviously, it's a big challenge to play Wednesday night and Saturday, but you have another game Tuesday. But we need to get the right mentality to do that."

At 0.31, Alexander Isak's header was supposedly the best chance of the match in terms of xG.

Calvin Bassey fights off Cody Gakpo, but a miscommunication with Antonee Robinson hands Liverpool the ball again.

Virgil van Dijk skews a pass out for a throw-in which sums up Liverpool's match in a nutshell.

Jeremie Frimpong drives forward and finds Rio Ngumoha at the back post but he puts the ball over wen reaching back for the shot!

Szoboszlai runs over to take the corner. He finds Alexander Isak who peels away and tries to flick it goalwards but it flies wide!

Alexander Isak now wins a free-kick, in a more central position but too far out to shoot.

Milos Kerkez does well to win a header and take the ball away from Kevin. He has done so at the expense of a corner though.

The corner doesn't beat the first man and Liverpool clear.

Kerkez then shows excellent fight to win a free-kick by the left corner flag.

Rio Ngumoha tries to run at Fulham's defence, but ends up passing it straight to Hugo Larsson.

There hasn't been much sign there will be an opening, and potentially winning, goal in this match.
