Wolves 0-4 Man City result - Premier League reaction as Erling Haaland scores twice and Tijjani Reijnders dazzles

Erling Haaland scored twice and Tijjani Reijnders grabbed a goal on a dazzling Premier League debut as Manchester City opened their season with a 4-0 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers. 

Reijnders was instrumental in setting up Haaland’s opening goal, a tap-in at the back post, then scored himself at the end of a swift counterattack to leave City 2-0 to the good and cruising at the break.

Haaland scored again in the 61st minute – set up by Reijnders at the climax of a lovely move goalkeeper James Trafford started – to put the result beyond doubt.

Trafford had little to do, with an early Marshall Munetsi goal correctly ruled out for offside the hosts' best moment.

Substitute Rayan Cherki added a fourth late on, a fine finish from outside of the box on his own Premier League debut, and the result takes City top of the Premier League table on goal difference. Wolves are bottom.

The game was Wolves’ first competitive fixture since the death of Diogo Jota and tributes were paid to their former player before kick-off, during the game and after, including a minute’s applause and a tifo just before the match started.

With the home fans singing in honour of Jota, his Portugal team-mates Dias and Silva come across to show their support.

Marmoush carries the ball into the box as City search for a fourth goal, but Toti shows impressive strength to hold him off and win back possession.
