Manchester City 2-0 Everton result - Erling Haaland nets twice in Premier League win

Erling Haaland reinforced Manchester City's title hopes as he scored twice in the second half to beat Everton 2-0 at Etihad Stadium.

The win moved Pep Guardiola's side to the top of the table ahead of Arsenal's trip to Fulham, while The Toffees sink to 10th on 11 points.

It was a promising opening from Everton despite Jack Grealish's ineligibility, with striker Beto having two close but fruitless chances early on and a stop by Gianluigi Donnarumma to deny Iliman Ndiaye.

City also had a few promising attempts, but it would be goalless going into the half-time break as both sides struggled to break through.

It was Nico O'Reilly who picked out Haaland in space to score his first goal (58'), while Savinho assisted the second (63').

There was a glimpse of a hat-trick, but the Norwegian passed up three opportunities before the whistle blew.

City now face a UEFA Champions League match against Villarreal on Tuesday, while Everton will look for points and a better result against Tottenham Hotspur next Sunday.

The hat-trick was not meant to be as the whistle blows, but it was a stunning performance from City nonetheless as they turned it around in the second half.

A third attempt gone awry for Haaland! It is deja vu as he finds himself one-on-one in front of goal, but Pickford comes at him once again to stop him in his tracks.

Unlucky for City as Haaland fumbles the ball off a break, he picks up the rebound off Pickford but the defenders have caught him now to clear, it goes to Cherki right behind but it doesn't go in either.

A couple corners for City, then another pass to Haaland in front of goal. Good decision from Pickford who comes out to throw him off, and he is too wide for his chip to go in.

Seven added minutes now, is there anything Everton can do?

Moyes makes two more subs for Everton, with McNeil and Dibling up in place of Ndiaye and Dewsbury-Hall.

City are stuck with ten, can Everton capitalise? They have a corner to play before City make their subs. A bit of a scuffle between Haaland and Tarkowski but nothing of it.

A triple substitution now for City, Lewis for O'Reilly, Cherki makes his return in place of Gonzales, Savinho comes off for Kovacic's first appearance.

Bernardo Silva sends a ball out Savinho on the left, and he crosses it into the box. It is too high for O'Reilly, who seems to jar his leg as he comes down from his jump. He is being tended to by medics now as City look to prep more substitutions.

Another good effort from Ndiaye on the wing, he crosses to Rohl, whose attempt ripples the side netting of the goal.

Substitution, Barry comes on for Beto from the Toffee's bench. Can he do what Beto couldn't?

Corner for City from an attempt by Bobb, their ninth in this match. It is swiftly cleared.

Bernardo Silva feeds it to Foden, who gives it a crack but it goes high. Substitutions for Moyes, he takes out Gana and Alcaraz for Iroegbunam and Rohl.

Another beauty! City have found their rhythm as Phil Foden finds Savinho, who sees Haaland sat in front of goal out of reach of the Everton defenders. It goes in low and with power, and he is on the cusp of another hattrick!

Everton call for handball on Bernardo Silva's block to no avail. Dewsbury-Hall tries to find Doku, but it pulls wide and he has to chase after it. But he crosses it back into the box to Garner, whose shot goes wide of the near post.

Substitutions for City, Bobb up for Doku while Bernardo Silva replaces Reijnders.

The Terminator comes through! A long ball comes to O'Reilly on the left, then he finds Haaland right in front of the penalty spot and Pickford can do nothing about that header.

Throw in for Everton from the halfway line, Beto takes it on the right but he gets pushed down by O'Reilly for a free kick.

Donnarumma catches it easily.

O'Reilly down the left, pass to Doku then back to O'Reilly, who finds Reijnders in front of goal, but it doesn't drop for him.

Some great chances from both teams so far, notably two from Beto and some sparkling form from Ndiaye. For City, they look dangerous when they have pace, and numbers wise, they are on top.
