LIVERPOOL EDGE PAST WINLESS WOLVES TO CLIMB INTO PREMIER LEAGUE TOP FOUR
Arne Slot’s Liverpool beat Wolves 2-1 thanks to goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Florian Wirtz to climb into the Premier League top four.
Meanwhile, Rob Edwards’ Wolves remain winless in the league but will take heart from a spirited performance.
As expected, Liverpool took control of the match in the early stages, moving the ball around well and looking to break down a stubborn and disciplined Wolves defence.
Slot’s side had their first real chance after 11 minutes when the ball was slipped into the path of the impressive Ekitike, who did well to shift the ball onto his right foot despite attention from multiple Wolves defenders, before firing an effort onto the outside of the post.
Wolves continued to frustrate Liverpool, and it looked as though Edwards’ side had successfully shut up shop in the first half. That was until Liverpool scored two goals within 90 seconds, just minutes from the break.

Ryan Gravenberch scored the first for The Reds, with Jeremie Frimpong smartly pulling the ball back for the Dutchman who rifled home first time past Jose Sa.
Just seconds later, Liverpool had a second. This time, Ekitike played a cute through-ball into the path of Wirtz who took a brilliant first touch before poking home past Sa to net his first Liverpool goal.
The visitors pulled one back five minutes into the second half, with Tolu Arokodare seeing his effort saved by Alisson but Santiago Bueno was on hand to score the rebound and create a sense of nervousness inside Anfield.

Liverpool, who have made a habit of dropping leads this season, were put under pressure on numerous occasions by Wolves, who, despite the defeat, will take heart from their performance, but the visitors could not find the equaliser.
Edwards' side remain on two points from their first 18 matches, still searching for their first win. Liverpool, on the other hand, despite the match turning out more difficult than perhaps it should have been, took all three points and climb into the top four, at least temporarily, four points off Aston Villa in third.
Villa travel to face Chelsea in the late Saturday evening kick off.
