Honours even at Elland Road

Leeds United and Newcastle United play out a cagey 0-0 draw as Eddie Howe’s search for a Premier League win this season goes on.
In what was a cagey and tightly contested match lacking in big chances, the two sides settled for a point each at Elland Road.
The hosts, Leeds, started on the front foot, looking to get forward and create chances against a Newcastle side without two of their star players in the form of Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak.
Daniel Farke’s side managed a succession of shots in the first half, in particular Anton Stach, who managed three attempts, but all were off target and failed to make Nick Pope work.
The match had to wait until the 43rd minute for the first shot on target for either side, with Jacob Murphy firing straight at Lucas Perri.

Murphy once again went close, this time 10 minutes inside the second half, doing well to find a yard of space before rifling a vicious effort, but Perri was once again able to make the save, pushing it around the post for a corner.
Farke rolled the dice on the hour mark, bringing on both Jack Harrison and Brenden Aaronson as he tried to get his side into the game but ultimately, it did not make too much of a difference, with The Whites struggling to create meaningful opportunities.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin was introduced with 20 minutes to go, and it was the former Everton man who had the best chance of the second period, latching onto a Jayden Bogle through ball before firing a low effort on goal which was saved by the foot of Pope.
It was not a game that will not live long in the memory of those who watched it, with the total xG coming to just 1.01, comfortably the lowest in a Premier League match this season, but come the end of the season, this may well be looked back on as a crucial point in Leeds’ bid for survival.

A MOMENT OF MAGIC?
