Leeds 1-1 Manchester United result - Matheus Cunha strike cancels out Brenden Aaronson's opener as Premier League rivals draw Elland Road epic

Leeds United extended their Premier League unbeaten run to seven matches as they played out a fascinating 1-1 draw with bitter rivals Manchester United at an expectant Elland Road.

It is their longest undefeated sequence in the top flight since 2001, with Daniel Farke's newly promoted side showing genuine quality despite failing to record a first league win against the visitors since 2002.

After Dominic Calvert-Lewin nodded against a post in a first half of few chances, it was Leeds who struck the opening goal when Brenden Aaronson raced onto a pass from Pascal Struijk, eluding Ayden Heaven to finish on 62 minutes.

But the lead lasted under three minutes as Joshua Zirkzee replaced Leny Yoro before picking out Matheus Cunha to slip home a fine equaliser on 65 minutes.

The home side almost won it late on when substitute Joel Piroe sent a swerving shot inches over, but a draw was a fair result from a frantic battle between the old foes.

Ruben Amorim's visitors remain in fifth spot, two points behind Liverpool, while a buoyant Leeds move eight points clear of relegation-haunted West Ham, who continue to occupy 18th spot in the standings.

"After the [Premier League] game against Wolves [1-1 at Old Trafford], it was a little bit sad for us," Cunha told TNT Sports.

"Of course, we want to win every single game, and then have a big opportunity to get into the top four.

"We need to keep going. After the draw, to come here isn't easy, we know how big this game is for everyone. But it is good to get a point here."

On the game being physical: "It was so hard. We know what to expect, of course for them they try to do everything to win. It's hard, a lot of physical, but every single game when we wear this shirt we have to give it all, and today was no different."

On the equaliser: "It's very important to go again after they score. We tried to do everything to win this game, and we hope the next one comes with three points.

"When everyone is here, we have everyone to create with me and create a lot of good things. We need to keep improving and try again in the next one."

"It's a big point for Leeds. It keeps their positive run going. They were pushing at the end with loads of attacking players on the pitch. They would have loved the win, but this continues a really good spell in their season."

"That's a great point for Leeds," he said on TNT Sports. "It puts them in a great position on 22 points in 16th. They're in a really good position. A point is probably fair enough."

"My player of the match is Matheus Cunha," said the TNT Sports pundit. "I've seen good teams wilt here at Elland Road but he has stood up right from the start. He's had a bit more freedom since Zirkzee came on, but throughout he has been their creative force."

Both sides clearly committed to earning the three points here, but a draw is looking like a fair outcome at the moment. Will we witness late drama between these bitter rivals?

Sesko looked ike he might have the chance to scamper in on goal, but the Leeds goalkeeper reacts to the danger to thump clear the ball.

Lukas Nmecha replaces Noah Okafor for the home side in a late push for all three points.

Looks like there is a change coming for Leeds as Sesko this time nods wide from the Zirkzee cross. Again, you ask, should he have done better in that situation?

Ward on the Leeds opener: "It just shows you, if you keeps going like Aaronson does, trying to close down. Heaven had no idea what Aaronson was doing. He still has to finish, but from a Manchester United point of view, that is a really poor goal to concede. Heaven hadn't put a foot wrong [until the mistake]."

Ward on the United response: "Great response, and it had to be Cunha. He looked like Manchester United's main threat. Leeds caught napping. He still has to finish it. A great ball from Zirkzee. We've got a game now - Manchester United had to react quickly."
