Everton 0-3 Tottenham Hotspur - Micky van de Ven's double sends Spurs up to third in the Premier League

The scoreline was harsh on Everton, but Tottenham Hotspur's 3-0 victory on Sunday - a first away win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium - put Thomas Frank's side third in the Premier League and showcased their improvement under current management.

Two goals from set pieces through their skipper Micky van de Ven put Thomas Frank's side into a dominant position and then Pape Matar Sarr’s late header, set up by former Evertonian Richarlison's unselfish header, gave the win an undeserved gloss.

Everton had 12 shots to Tottenham's seven and could have been on the scoresheet a number of times with Guglielmo Vicario making a number of fine saves, particularly from Beto’s overhead kick and a deflected strike from the very impressive Iliman Ndiaye.

There was also a borderline call of Ndiaye obstructing Vicario when Jake O’Brien crashed a header home from a corner, which would have brought them a first-half equaliser.

While happy with aspects of his team's performance, in a year when there has been an increase in set piece goals, David Moyes would have been proud going into the match not to have conceded from a corner and, conversely, disappointed with the two close-range headers let in to the Dutch centre back.

Everton remain down in 14th spot, just six points clear of the bottom three, and face a tough trip to Sunderland next.

Spurs become the first away side to win at Everton's new home.

Porro's fine cross was headed back across goal unselfishly by Richarlison and Sarr, running onto the ball, headed home.

But Tarkowski gets to the ball in front of the Brazilian. The linesman's flag went up, just about correctly, anyway.

An offensive move with an attacking player brought on for a holding player.

It didn't look possible for Grealish to get a cross in, but he battled through two challenges and beat another player before delivering into the six-yard box, only for the flying keeper to punch away.

But he sends a free header from six yards out high over the crossbar.

But his effort is deflected over the bar.

But Vicario came out sharply to claim.

But Paulhinha does superbly to get in the way of his shot.

Ndiaye's shot is deflected by Danso but Vicario stretches to his right to push the effort away.

He wants a booking for Bentancur for fouling him stopping a counter-attack. Ironically just afterwards van de Ven kicks the ball away. There could have been two Spurs booking but instead there is one Everton man yellow-carded.

Beto is replaced by Barry and Rohl comes on for O'Brien.

He does well edging Tarkowski under the ball but he blasts a shot as Pickford comes out, when he might have been better going around him, and the England stopper makes the save.

They deserved a goal with their play after the break, but Spurs look more confident defending now.

Bergvall comes on for an unhappy Simons, and Kolo Muani is replaced by Richarlison.

And then flies over Pickford's goal. Van de Ven might fancy a hat-trick here.

He brings down Kudus when chasing down Tottenham's counter attack.

The pitch will be able to handle it you would expect but the torrential rain could slow down quick counter attacks.
