Manchester United have announced a deal to sign forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Brazil international was widely tipped to become Ruben Amorim’s first signing of the summer, and the move was confirmed by United on Thursday.
Cunha had been linked with other clubs after scoring 17 goals and registering six assists in all competitions for Wolves in the 2024/25 season, but he opted to join the ongoing project at Old Trafford.
The striker had been seen in Manchester last weekend to complete his medical.
The club said in a statement on their website: "Everyone at Manchester United looks forward to welcoming Matheus to Old Trafford."
Amorim was expected to target attackers during his first summer transfer window.
United struggled for goals during the 2024/25 Premier League season, with only Everton and relegated sides Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton finding the net fewer times.
Captain Bruno Fernandes topped the scoring charts with 19 goals in all competitions, but of the club’s recognised centre-forwards, only Rasmus Hojlund hit double figures.
United will be without European football next season after losing to Tottenham in the final of the UEFA Europa League, which Amorim said will allow him more time on the training pitch to improve the club's domestic form.
After beating Aston Villa on the final day of the season to finish 15th in the table, the Portuguese boss addressed the Old Trafford faithful and vowed "the good days are coming" after apologising for a disastrous campaign.
With a number of players expected to depart, Cunha will be the first new arrival. He arrived at Molineux from Atletico Madrid in 2023 for a fee in the region of £34m and has registered 42 goal contributions in the Premier League.
The likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa were also believed to be keen on exploring a deal for him, but he will wear the iconic red of Manchester United next season.
