Pep Guardiola is out of contract with Manchester City at the end of this season, and he is being linked with the vacant England manager's post.
The men’s team has been without a permanent manager since Gareth Southgate resigned following the run to the final of the European Championship in the summer.
Interim manager Lee Carsley has yet to confirm if he wants to be considered for the post on a full-time basis, having overseen three wins and one defeat in his tenure so far.
Whether Carsley is in the running is not clear, but it is being reported that the Football Association is assessing a host of candidates.
One name said to be in the mix is Man City manager Guardiola.
It is being reported by The Times that the FA made contact and "sounded out" Guardiola at the start of the season.

Having taken City to six titles in his nine seasons in charge, Guardiola is hot property.
When asked about his future by Che Tempo Che Fa, Guardiola said: “Leaving City? It’s not true, I haven’t decided yet.
“And it is not even true that I will be the next England coach. If I had decided I would say it … I don’t know either, anything can happen.”
If appointed, Guardiola would be the third foreign England manager of England on a full-time basis, following in the footsteps of the late Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
There are other candidates still in the running, per The Times, including Thomas Tuchel, formerly of Chelsea who is currently out of work, with Newcastle’s Eddie Howe also rumoured to be of interest.

Carsley has two more games as interim manager, against Greece away and Republic of Ireland at home, to stake his claim for the job.
As for Guardiola, City sit second in the Premier League table, with five wins and two draws from their opening seven matches.
They return to Premier League action following the international break against Wolves on Sunday.
