SALAH MAKES MORE HISTORY AS LIVERPOOL EXTEND LEAD AT TOP BY HITTING SPURS FOR SIX
Mo Salah struck twice to become the fourth-highest goalscorer in Liverpool history as Arne Slot’s Reds moved four points clear at the top of the Premier League courtesy of a thrilling 6-3 victory at Tottenham.
The Merseysiders were already guaranteed to be top of the pile on Christmas Day following Chelsea’s draw at Everton, but they were clearly intent on extending their advantage over Enzo Maresca’s Blues in an irrepressible first half in which Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai were all on target.
James Maddison’s strike before the interval almost flattered the hosts and Liverpool pulled clear in the second half through a Salah double, which took the Egyptian top of the Premier League leading scorer charts with 15 so far this season.
Dejan Kulusevski and Dominik Solanke pulled goals back for the home side to briefly threaten an unthinkable recovery, but Diaz grabbed his second of the game five minutes from time to seal the points.

MO SALAH REACTS TO BIG WIN AND MORE GOAL RECORDS
Thoughts on the game overall: "We were quite good up front but I think defensively we need to improve as a team. Conceding three goals is disappointing, but it’s a good result and we will just keep going.
"I think we expected it to be open the way they play. They open the game. You can see the game is really tough, physically and mentally you always have to be in the game.
I’m glad we managed to win the game because they are also very intense.
"They have the way they play and they don’t change it much. It’s quite intense. You can see City come here and struggle as well as other (top) teams.
On being delighted to become the first player in PL history to score and assist double figures before Christmas: "Of course, I was not thinking about it before the game, but I’m glad to have done it. It’s something that makes me happy and proud and I’ll keep working hard."
On his pride at moving fourth on the all-time list of leading LFC scorers: "Of course, it is something great to achieve. It’s such a big club, Liverpool. But the most important thing is that we won the game and to have that achievement is great.
On if he could catch Ian Rush at the top of that list: "I don’t know how he scored that many goals, but football back then was like seven v seven, not really 11 v 11 (joking), but he’s a great legend for the club. Whatever I end my career with I’ll be proud and happy with."
Asked if there was an update on a new contract, he bluntly said ‘no’.

IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A ‘SLOT’ LIKE CHRISTMAS…
Liverpool pick up a first win in three in the top-flight to move four points clear at the summit with a game in hand.
The Merseysiders were already guaranteed to be top of the pile at Christmas, but this will provide added cheer as Arne Slot’s men took advantage of Chelsea’s draw at Everton.
The Reds remain the only undefeated away side in the Premier League this season, with six wins and two draws from eight fixtures.
Salah also became the first player to reach double figures for both goals and assists before Christmas in a Premier League season in the history of the competition.
Spurs remain the great entertainers with a nine-goal thriller following the seven-goal rollercoaster against Man United in midweek. However, this was an eighth PL defeat of the season and leaves them 11th and eight points off the top four.
Next up, Spurs visit Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day while Liverpool are at home to Leicester City.
