OMAR MARMOUSH STRIKES HAT-TRICK AS CITY HIT NEWCASTLE FOR FOUR
Manchester City bounced back from recent defeats to Arsenal and Real Madrid with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Newcastle at Etihad Stadium thanks to a first career hat-trick from Omar Marmoush.
Pep Guardiola’s side have now moved back into the top four, following Chelsea’s defeat to Brighton last night.
City’s new recruit struck his first Premier League goal after 19 minutes, before adding two more inside the first 34 minutes to take home the match ball.
The first goal came from Ederson’s excellent long ball, with Marmoush beating Kieran Trippier before lobbing the ball over the helpless Martin Dubravka.
City’s goalkeeper now has the most assists of any goalkeeper in Premier League history with six.
Ilkay Gundogan set up Marmoush for his second after 24 minutes, before the Egypt star latched on to Savinho’s cross to make it three just eleven minutes later and put City out of sight in the first half.
Newcastle struggled to create much during the second half and substitute James McAtee completed the rout late on, turning home Erling Haaland’s header from a corner.
The Norwegian star did limp off with a knee injury late on, but Guardiola will be hoping it is not serious with a huge run of games coming up.
City have now scored in 33 consecutive games against Newcastle, as the Geordies’ dismal record at the Etihad continued.
Eddie Howe's side drop down to seventh following their second consecutive league defeat.
The reigning Premier League champions now face Real Madrid on Wednesday in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off, whilst Newcastle host Nottingham Forest next weekend.

CITY JUMP BACK INTO THE TOP FOUR!
Manchester City have now moved back into the top four after a 4-0 victory over Newcastle, overtaking Chelsea by one point.
Pep Guardiola’s side suffered a damaging 5-1 defeat to Arsenal last time out in the league but bounced back in brilliant fashion to secure an important three points.
The reigning champions blew Newcastle away during the first half, as Omar Marmoush struck his first career hat-trick inside the opening 34 minutes.
The hosts kept just their second clean sheet this year and their first in six matches, which will please Guardiola as defending has been a major problem for his side this campaign.
City now face Liverpool at the Etihad in their next Premier League game, so it was vital they won this afternoon to ensure they go into that huge clash with some confidence.
With the title almost certainly out of reach for Guardiola’s side, it is imperative they finish in the top four and guarantee their place in the UEFA Champions League next season.
