TOOTHLESS LEICESTER GIFT MAN CITY FOURTH SPOT
Manchester City are back in the top four of the Premier League thanks to a 2-0 victory over Leicester City.
It was a bad start for Leicester after Jack Grealish scored his first Premier League goal since December 2023 just two minutes into their match at Etihad Stadium. In fact, it was so early that a number of protesting City fans actually missed it.
Omar Marmoush doubled the lead in the 29th minute, and indeed threatened to put a couple more past a sometimes hapless-looking Mads Hermansen in goal.
Despite a few decent performances, in particular by Savinho, Man City never really seemed to put their foot on the gas, opting instead to take advantage of the toothless performance by the visitors, who lacked on almost every possible level.
The win puts Man City in fourth place, edging out Chelsea for at least a day, but all that could change on Sunday when they visit Old Trafford for the Manchester derby.
Meanwhile, Leicester remain firmly in the relegation zone, 12 points from safety and have a date with a buoyant Newcastle United to look forward to on Monday.

VAN NISTLEROOY SPEAKS OF "VERY BIG" POINTS DIFFERENCE TO OVERCOME
Leicester manager Ruud van Nistlerooy has been speaking to Sky Sports about the bad start to the match. He said:
Not scoring, losing games, bad start is extra hard to recover from. Situation we're in, only by hard work can we get out. The gap is huge now. It's a challenge. Nevertheless, we have eight games to play and we have to represent ourselves in the best possible way and that's a challenge.
On the task ahead in terms of avoiding relegation, he said:
Today before the game I mentioned it because the gap was already big. I asked the players that the remaining moments we have at this level we have to make the most of it no matter the table or the score in the game. We have to go from first to last minute and give it everything.

GREALISH PLAYS TRIBUTE TO BROTHER AFTER SCORING FIRST LEAGUE GOAL SINCE 2023
Manchester City's Jack Grealish spoke of a "difficult day" for his family after scoring his first league goals since December 2023, on the 25th anniversary of the death of his younger brother.
Asked by Sky Sports how it felt to score after such a long time, he said:
Nice, yeah… As soon as I scored I knew this would be what people would say, but this season, I’ve obviously not been at my best, even last season... I’ve only started I think three or four games, I’ve not started in the Premier League since before Christmas, so obviously I was happy that I started tonight and I’m happy to score.
When asked if he felt relieved to score, he admitted:
A little bit. I know myself that I could score more, but I know I give a lot more than just scoring. I think my highest ever tally in goals is about eight in a season, so I don’t think I was ever brought here to score 20 or 30 goals a season... I’ve never been one of those people that just scores constantly. Of course, I would love to score – there aren't many better feelings – but I feel like I offer a lot more to the team than just scoring.
Speaking about his disappointment at not starting in the FA Cup match against Bournemouth on Sunday, he said:
I think I’ve only started in the FA Cup this year in 2025. As you can imagine, I was devastated not to play at the weekend [in the FA Cup] because I played in every other round, so I was so disappointed with this, but I came on, I felt like I played well, and then I felt like I deserved to play tonight... It was a nice day because my little brother passed away 25 years ago today, so this day is hard in the family, but I was happy to score.

AN UNINSPIRING WIN PUTS CITY FOURTH

Man City edged into the fourth spot in the table until at least tomorrow, when Chelsea play Spurs. Meanwhile, Leicester City languish in the relegation zone, and it's not undeserved on that showing.
