REDS DOWN TOWN WITH EASE
Cody Gakpo scored twice and Dominic Szoboszlai and Mo Salah were also on target as Liverpool cruised to victory over Ipswich.
The only surprise was that the margin of victory did not surpass Manchester City’s 6-0 victory over Kieran McKenna’s side last week, with the Suffolk strugglers looking devoid of any confidence.
For much of the game, Liverpool’s whole side were in the Ipswich third of the field dictating play, with the visitors camped on the edge of their box.
Szoboszlai’s early fine strike from 20 yards prevented any frustration building for the home side and then Salah netted his customary goal shooting high into the net from close range. Gakpo added two poachers goals, one following up a goalkeeper save and then a header from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross for the only goal of the second half, before Jacob Greaves’ late consolation.
The win sees Liverpool retain their six-point lead, with a game in hand, at the top of the table. Ipswich’s goal difference, which has them in the bottom three behind Wolves, took another hit this afternoon.

WHAT FOOTBALL IS ON TNT SPORTS?
Live Premier League football is coming thick and fast on TNT Sports and discovery+ as 2025 rolls in.
The first month of the year concludes with a Sunday night clash between Fulham and Manchester United on January 26 before Nottingham Forest face Brighton on February 1.
REDS REMAIN SIX POINTS CLEAR AT TOP
And with a game in hand over Arsenal. Surprisingly Nottingham Forest, who began the game level with the Gunners, drop away after losing 5-0 at Bournemouth.
Ipswich are level on points with fourth-bottom Wolves but behind on goal difference - and it very much looks like being three teams from four going down, as fifth-bottom Everton under new/old manager David Moyes won at Brighton and are now seven points clear of the danger zone.
