RAMPANT MAN CITY FIRE WARNING TO RIVALS WITH SIX OF THE BEST AT IPSWICH
Phil Foden netted a brace and Erling Haaland celebrated signing a new long-term contract with a goal as Manchester City’s resurgence continued courtesy of an emphatic 6-0 victory at relegation-threatened Ipswich Town.
The visitors made a slow start but suddenly burst into life with two goals in three minutes around the half hour mark as first Foden and then Mateo Kovacic produced clinical finishes.
Ipswich had gone close through Liam Delap and Omari Hutchinson while it was still goalless, but left themselves with an exercise in damage limitation heading into the interval as Foden made it three on 42 minutes to grab his 100th senior goal for club and country.
The rearguard action did not materialise for Ipswich as Jeremy Doku, Haaland and substitute James McAtee added further goals to rub salt in the home team's wounds and do some serious damage to The Tractor Boys’ goal difference.
The result sees Manchester City climb up to fourth spot, level on points with Newcastle United, but above The Magpies on goal difference.
Ipswich, who have taken just one point from three top-flight matches in 2025, remain 18th, level on points with 17th-placed Wolves who visit Chelsea on Monday night.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH PHIL FODEN DESCRIBES WIN AS CITY’S BEST OF THE SEASON
Asked to sum up the display from Man City at Ipswich, Foden told Sky Sports: "It’s probably the best (performance) this season in terms of all round play… keeping possession, we defended well; so one of the best this year."
On what has changed in recent games to lead to this improvement: "I don’t know. We are just building momentum. Keeping players fit is important. We had a lot of injuries. People are in better shape, the team are bonding better. You could see that on the pitch today.
"When we score now we go for the next goal, keep possession and keep pushing. The build-up play was good today, Gundogan and Kovacic were important. They broke the press and kept the ball well."
On his own recent form with six goals in his last six outings after a poor start to the campaign by his own high standards: "I learned everything from it (a barren start to this season). It’s good to see me back scoring goals with a smile on my face and enjoying football. I’ve got a few goals recently and I want to keep going now and adding to that."
He continued: "It all seems to have changed for me in front of goal. I think I’ve been unlucky before this run, but if I keep arriving in the box with the players we’ve got, I’m going to get chances so I’m delighted to keep scoring."
On what City can go on to achieve if they keep up this level in the second half of the season: "Well, you never know what can happen, but the aim is just to try and stay in the top four at the moment. That’s the aim for now."

SIX APPEAL - MAN CITY SEEM TO HAVE PUT THEIR RECENT WOES FIRMLY BEHIND THEM
Well, that was emphatic.
The City-zens are now unbeaten in six games across all competitions and have won three of their last four in the league.
With reinforcements also expected during the January window it looks like the crisis has been averted and the champions will be aiming to cement their place back in the top four in the weeks and months ahead, after their shocking run prior to Christmas threatened to put them out of the running for next season’s UCL places too.
They have also been buoyed by the return to form of last year’s Premier League Player of the Year, Phil Foden.
The attacker did not net in his first 11 PL outings this term, but now has six goals in his last six matches.
Next up, City face a crunch UCL match at PSG before hosting Chelsea in the league on Saturday.
It doesn’t get much easier for Ipswich who travel to leaders Liverpool.

IPSWICH WILL FACE BIGGER BATTLES IN THEIR BID TO BEAT THE DROP
It's a so-called 'free hit' that has gone terribly wrong for the home side, but they know it will be against the likes of Southampton - who they meet in their next home game - where their PL fate will be decided.
Everton's win over Spurs today hasn't done The Tractor Boys any favours either.

MANCHESTER CITY ARE PLAYING WITHIN THEMSELVES NOW
Ipswich had a mini spell of pressure a couple of moments ago but to no avail.
The away side have the points in the bag and are just knocking it about, playing down time.

AS IT STANDS
The result will see Manchester City climb up to fourth spot, level on points with Newcastle but above The Magpies on goal difference.
Ipswich, who will have taken just one point from three top-flight matches in 2025, remain 18th, level on points with 17th-placed Wolves who visit Chelsea on Monday night.
It's a bad for McKenna and Co in terms of their goal difference.

But not for Pep's City Slickers, who look to be firing in time for the second half of the season, although Ipswich have been poor today.

GOAL! - IPSWICH 0-6 MAN CITY: (MCATEE)
It's getting embarrassing for The Tractor Boys.
This time it's one of the City substitutes as McAtee makes a late dart into the box to nod a header over the 'keeper from Kovacic's clipped pass.

MAN CITY CITY CHANGES

Foden, Haaland and De Bruyne off.
The changes makes sense given City have a crunch UCL clash at PSG in midweek.
