NDIAYE FIRES EVERTON TO VICTORY IN FINAL MATCH AT GOODISON PARK
Iliman Ndiaye scored a first-half double as Everton brought the curtain down on 133 years of football at Goodison Park with a clinical 2-0 victory over Southampton amid emotional scenes.
With the club moving to a new 52,000-all seater home at Bramley-Moore Dock next term, it was left to Ndiaye to bag the final goals at their historic old ground, which first hosted an Everton match in 1892, before a sell-out 39,201 crowd.
Ndiaye showed his quality with a lovely curling finish on six minutes after bounding towards the visiting box before rounding Saints goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from Dwight McNeil's pass to add the second in added time in the first half.
Everton, who saw two Beto finishes ruled out for offside between Ndiaye's goals, were never really under threat in the second half, but England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford showed his qualities to prevent a nervy finish as he managed to halt a Cameron Archer finish on 84 minutes with his feet.
While relegated Southampton are already preparing for life in the Championship next season, Everton are guaranteed to finish in 13th place in the table whatever happens in their final match of the season at Newcastle next Sunday.
