Schade's long throw is headed behind by Mings for Brentford's first corner. Mbeumo's inswinger is cleared and VIlla break dangerously. Lewis-Potter does well to force Ramsey wide and eventually the Villa attack peters out.

Brentford can be so threatening on the break but at the moment Villa are controlling the game impressively. The only thing they haven't done is create a stream of clear chances. But they have been much the better team in possession.

Tielemans' free-kick from deep on the right finds its way through to Mings, who studs the bouncing ball straight at Flekken. The bounce made it more awkward but it was still a terrific chance.

Ramsey cuts inside and hits a shot that is deflected behind for a corner. It's been a lively start to the game.

Lewis-Potter is fractionally offside when put clear by a lovely pass from Damsgaard. Play continued just in case and Lewis-Potter's square pass - designed to give Wissa an open goal - was cut out by Mings.

At the other end, Bailey tees himself up for a shot from 15 yards that is blocked at source by Lewis-Potter.

McGinn, trying to play out from the back, is robbed in the Villa penalty area. The ball rolls across to Wissa, who is about to shoot when Tielemans make a vital lunging tackle.

Plenty of early possession for Villa, who are popping the ball round confidently. So far it has all been in front of the Brentford defence.
