Cristiano Ronaldo backs Ruben Amorim to survive Manchester United crisis - 'The storm will finish and the sun will rise'

Cristiano Ronaldo gave his thoughts on the continued crisis at Manchester United, backing Ruben Amorim to end the "storm" at his former Premier League club. Ronaldo likened the club to a sick fish and made it clear that its problem is not coaches such as Amorim or Erik ten Hag, but deeper. The Portuguese legend also briefly opened up about plans to own a "big club" in the future.

Cristiano Ronaldo has kept a close eye on the ongoing plight of his former club Manchester United but believes that the "storm" swirling around the club could finish under Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese and United legend reiterated his love for the club while speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, where he picked up the 2024 Best Middle East Player award.
Ronaldo has the unique insight of having experienced United during the highs under Sir Alex Ferguson and witnessed the ugliness of the post-Fergie era in a second stint under Erik ten Hag.
Amorim is now discovering that identity crisis for himself as he begins to feel the pressure that comes with the role.
The new manager has lost five of his first 10 games since joining last month, including a 2-0 Boxing Day defeat at Wolves, but Ronaldo backed his compatriot to survive the storm of the Premier League.

"He did a fantastic job in Portugal with my Sporting," the 39-year-old said regarding Amorim. "But as I said before, the Premier League is a different beast. It's a different league. It's the most competitive league in the world. It will be tough.
"The storm will continue but the storm will finish, and the sun will rise.
"Fingers crossed that things will be good with him and I hope the best for Manchester United because this is a club that I still love."
Ronaldo added that United's problem is not the coaches, comparing the club's predicament to that of a sick fish.
"The Premier League is the most difficult league in the world," Ronaldo said. "All the teams are good, all the teams they fight, all the teams run. All the players are strong.
"Football is different right now, there's no easy games anymore.
"I said this one year and a half ago and I will continue to say it: the problem is not the coaches.
"I always give this example, it is like the aquarium. If you have the fish inside and he is sick, and you take him out and fix the problem. If you put him in the aquarium they will be sick again.
"The problem of Manchester United is not only the coach. It is much more than that."
He also touched on the potential of owning the club in the future, and made the bold claim that he could fix the club's issues as owner.
"If I will be the owner of the club, I will make the things clear and adjust what I think is bad there," he said.
"I am still very young, I have so many plans and dreams ahead but, mark my words, I will be the owner of a big club for sure."

'HE DESERVED TO WIN' - ON VINI BALLON D'OR SNUB

Ronaldo also gave his thoughts on Vinicius Junior's Ballon d'Or snub, saying that he believed the Brazilian deserved to win the award.
Vinicius was the frontrunner for the October award until the night before the ceremony, where reports suggested that Manchester City's Rodri would take home the coveted title.
It prompted the entire Real Madrid team to boycott the ceremony in protest.
"Vinicius, in my opinion, he deserved to win the Golden Ball. It was unfair, in my opinion. I say it here in front of everybody," Ronaldo said.
"They give it to Rodrigo [Rodri], he deserved it too but I think they should give it to Vinicius because he won the Champions League and scored a goal in the final.
"The other issues are not important for me. When you deserve it, you should give it to who deserves [it].
"These galas always do the same thing. This is why I love Globe Soccer and will continue to do it at these galas because you do honest awards. This is very good."
