Antony: Manchester United forward leaves club to join La Liga side Real Betis on loan for remainder of season

Antony's spell at Manchester United has come to a temporary end as the winger joined La Liga outfit Real Betis on loan until the end of the season. The Brazilian, who signed for £82 million from Ajax in Erik ten Hag's first season in 2022, has failed to live up to the pressures of his price tag. Antony has made just 14 appearances in all competitions this term, netting a single goal.

Antony has signed for Real Betis on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season.
The Brazilian, signed from Ajax for £82 million in Erik ten Hag's first season in charge back in 2022, has struggled to produce since his arrival at Old Trafford.
The winger saw his game time drastically decrease going into the 2024-2025 season, and even more so when Ten Hag was relieved of his duties as manager, with Ruben Amorim replacing him in the United dugout.
Antony, a natural right-winger, does not suit the profile of wide player that Amorim prefers in his favoured 3-4-2-1 system, and as such, has failed to properly break into the Portuguese manager's starting XI.
The former Ajax man joins Betis, managed by former Manchester City and West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini, in LaLiga, on a straight loan deal with no option to buy.
It is reported that United will contribute towards Antony's wages during his time away from Old Trafford.
This season, Antony has made 14 appearances in all competitions, scoring just once - a penalty in the 7-0 win over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.
In his United career, the Brazilian has played 96 times, scoring 12 goals and laying on five assists in his two-and-a-half years in Manchester.
He made the perfect possible start, scoring the winning goal on his debut in a 2-1 victory over Arsenal, and he scored a further three league goals in his first season in English football.
However, he then struggled for form in 2023-2024, scoring and assisting just once in 29 league appearances.
Manchester United's next fixture is on Sunday, against Fulham at Craven Cottage, live on discovery+ and TNT Sports, with kick-off at 7pm.
TNT Sports will show over 500 matches from the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Conference League across the 2024-25 season. The streaming home for TNT Sports in the UK is discovery+, where fans can enjoy a subscription that includes TNT Sports, Eurosport and entertainment in one destination.
