After a season of controversy regarding the Premier League's current Profit and Sustainability Regulations, which have seen both Nottingham Forest and Everton deducted points in the league, a majority of sides have now voted in principle to replace them. The new spending cap could be introduced for the 2025-26 season and is aimed at reducing excessive spending on transfers.

Premier League clubs have agreed in principle to adopt a spending cap from the 2025-26 season to replace the current Profit and Sustainability Regulations.
A majority of teams voted in favour of pushing ahead with spending cap plans, which would be calculated by the amount of money earned from broadcast rights by the lowest-earning side in the league.
The move will still have to be approved at the Premier League annual general meeting in June, and if that goes through, then the new rules would be introduced from next year.
Current financial regulations have seen both Everton and Nottingham Forest penalised with points deductions this season.
There were reports in previous days that the decision was opposed by a number of sides, but the new process of “anchoring” is designed to reduce spending on transfer and agent expenditures.
A statement from the PFA said in response: "We’ll wait to see details of proposals.
"But we would oppose any measure that would place a ‘hard’ cap on player wages.
"There is an established process in place to ensure proposals like this, which would directly impact our members, have to be properly consulted on.”
The BBC reported that Manchester United, Manchester City and Aston Villa voted against the change, while Chelsea abstained.
