Jurgen Klopp rues wasteful Liverpool in damaging Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace - ‘Feel really, really rubbish’

It has been a chastening four days for Liverpool with their hopes of winning the UEFA Europa League and Premier League now hanging in the balance. After being on the receiving end of a sobering 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in Europe's second-tier competition, Liverpool were edged out by Crystal Palace ahead of Arsenal's match against Aston Villa later on Sunday.

'There's nothing really positive to say' - Klopp reacts to shock loss to Atalanta

Jurgen Klopp admits he feels "really, really rubbish" after Liverpool's Premier League title ambitions took a huge hit with a shock 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Anfield.
Eberechi Eze’s 14th-minute strike gave the Eagles a famous win to extinguish any lingering relegation fears, as The Reds succumbed to consecutive home defeats following their 3-0 Europa League humbling by Atalanta on Thursday.
“I feel really, really rubbish,” Klopp told Sky Sports.
“It's the second home game in a row that we've lost. We're not used to that; we have to see how we react. We have to work, and we will do that, but I cannot now stand here and say: 'now that's the starting point for us for the rest of the season'.
“It doesn't feel like that at this moment, but maybe it will feel like that tomorrow.”
Klopp reflected in more detail on the turn of events in the match and bemoaned a continuing lack of a cutting edge in the final third from his side.
"To concede that goal was a horrible goal to concede with a completely free player in the area,” he explained.
“That cannot happen but it happens. Andy Robertson gets the other ball so it's like scoring a goal if you don't concede from that. Crystal Palace didn't have many more [chances] and we controlled it better.
"The game in the second half was much better, Trent [Alexander-Arnold] coming on and in the moment the structure changed. We caused problems and we had big, big chances. If we stand here and win the game 4-1 we could have seen the same game with a completely different result. But we didn't so we have to take that."
The Reds boss believes there could well have been a hangover from Thursday’s sobering defeat, and said his side’s usual pressing game did not come to the fore today.
When quizzed about a potential hangover, he replied: "Could be. If you would look to my teams over the years, I think you could say our pressing is usually good.
"Counter-press is there. The first half we were open like 'how can that happen?' Curtis [Jones] was the only one really chasing, really getting out and from time to time broke their rhythm.
"Was this a hangover? Yes. That's how humans react sometimes. It's not great but it happens. The conviction wasn't there. We were much too far apart from each other.
"Last line too deep, the midfield wasn't really there, first line didn't start the press. So that's all true.”
