Harry Maguire, Erik ten Hag win Premier League November awards after perfect month for Manchester United

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has won the Premier League Player of the Month award for November, while manager Erik ten Hag has been named Manager of the Month.

The award caps a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for Maguire, who looked close to leaving United in the summer and was seemingly out of favour with Ten Hag.

He got his chance in the team after injuries in the backline and has made an impressive return.

Maguire played every minute as United won all three Premier League games in November without conceding a goal.

“Couldn’t have done it without my team mates, the staff and you fans,” said Maguire on X.

“Your love and support doesn’t go unnoticed, I appreciate it.”

Maguire is the third United defender after Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand to win the Premier League Player of the Month award, and only the 15th defender to do so in Premier League history.

The last defender to win the award was Liverpool’s Joel Matip in February 2022.

Maguire saw off competition from Jeremy Doku (Manchester City), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle), Thomas Kaminski (Luton), Raheem Sterling (Chelsea), and Marcus Tavernier (Bournemouth) to win the award.

Earlier this season England boss Gareth Southgate was questioned over continuing to select Maguire despite his lack of playing time at United.

But Maguire’s place in England’s starting XI at Euro 2024 now looks much more assured after his recent club performances.

United took maximum points from matches against Fulham, Luton Town and Everton in November.

The run has seen Ten Hag win the Manager of the Month award for the third time, adding to his prizes from September 2022 and February 2023.

He topped a four-man shortlist ahead of Luton's Rob Edwards, Newcastle's Eddie Howe, and Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola.

It was a triple success for United as Alejandro Garnacho won the Goal of the Month award for his stunning overhead-kick against Everton.

The goal was hailed as one of the greatest in Premier League history.

United will be looking to build on their midweek win over Chelsea when they host Bournemouth on Saturday.
