Virgil van Dijk will spend an extra match on the sidelines following his sending off in Liverpool's 2-1 Premier League win over Newcastle on August 27. Van Dijk angrily protested against his dismissal after being penalised for a challenge on Newcastle's Alexander Isak. The Netherlands international was found guilty of using "abusive and insulting words towards a match official".

Virgil van Dijk has been issued an additional one-match ban and a £100,000 fine for his reaction to being sent off in Liverpool's Premier League win against Newcastle last month.
The Netherlands international received a red card and an initial one-game suspension for his foul on Alexander Isak - an offence which was not deemed to be one of violent conduct.
The defender was seen angrily protesting his dismissal with referee John Brookes and fourth official Craig Pawson as he left the field of play.
He subsequently missed The Reds' 3-0 win over Aston Villa on September 2, but will now be ruled out of the match against Wolves at Molineux on September 16 - a match that will be shown live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
A statement issued by the Football Association read as follows: “Virgil van Dijk has been suspended for one match and fined £100,000 for breaching FA Rule E3.1 during Liverpool ’s Premier League fixture against Newcastle United on Sunday 27 August.
“The defender admitted that he acted in an improper manner and used abusive and insulting words towards a match official after being sent off in the 29th minute, and the sanctions were subsequently imposed by an independent Regulatory Commission.
"Full written reasons for this case will be published in due course.”
The 32-year-old reflected on the incident whilst away on international duty with Netherlands, and admitted that his behaviour was out of sorts.
"That was not typical for me but that was the red card anyway," Van Dijk said. "I've never got one before at Liverpool, and I think only about four times in my entire career. But apart from that I still started the season well.
"I feel good and strong. I think it went well against Chelsea and Bournemouth. Despite the red card, the start was fine. I cannot wait to return.”
Jurgen Klopp will have Van Dijk available for selection again for their UEFA Europa League group opener against LASK on September 21, before Liverpool host West Ham at Anfield three days later.
