Premier League result: Harry Kane scores twice and sees penalty saved as Tottenham Hotspur win at Nottingham Forest

Spurs get the second half underway.

Nottingham Forest 0-1 Tottenham.

One minute to go at the end of the first period.

Lingard touches Toffolo's low ball from the left back into the path of Gibbs-white, but the midfielder's strike is just over the top. More fine approach play from the hosts goes unrewarded.

It's a bit of cliche, but so true about this contest. Forest deserve to be level on the balance of play but Tottenham have had the better chances.

Finely poised...

More brilliant play from Forest's forwards opens up the play once more. Lingard exchanges a one-two and then feeds Williams, but the wing back slips as he takes aim from the right side of the area and his shot arrows wide.

Son is sent completely clear on Henderson. He looks all set to score but fires straight at the keeper. It's some miss, but his blushes are spared by a late flag for offside.

The home team almost catch Spurs out on the break and at their own game. Johnson rakes a pass from right to left looking to free Lingard, but Lloris flies off his line to parry it away from the danger zone.

A better spell for Spurs. Son ups the ante following a slow build-up but Kulusevski sees a 25-yard drive well blocked from the South Korean's lay off.

The Italian is a bundle of energy at the best of times but he knows his side are being pegged back a bit too often, despite the inclination to like to counter through Kane and Son.

The home side are so up for this. They are winning most of the 50-50s and unsettling Spurs with some lovely play in and around the box.

However, the visitors look the more likely. Kane picks up a loose ball after a long spell of Forest pressure and clips a ball over the top for Son. He's one-on-one with the last defender but is penalised for an unfortunate hand ball off an awkward bounce.

That attack didn't come to anything but shows just what Tottenham can produce if given the chance to counter.

Kane is now just one goal behind Andrew Cole in third place in the overall Premier League top scorers list.

Lewis O'Brien stings Lloris' palms with a speculative 30-yarder before Perisic produces one of the most calm headers you'll ever see by nodding it back to his keeper from a dangerously, clipped cross from the right. The penalty area was packed too.

Forest are caught on the break once more but Kane's attempted curler lacks the bend and flies wide of the far post.

The striker has plundered 186 of the 200 for Tottenham. The rest came in loan spells.

Forest fail to clear their lines from a Perisic cross and almost pay the price. It drops to Son 22 yards out but the South Korean sees his curving effort flash inches over the bar.

Worrall comes to Forest's rescue with a well-timed, last-ditch challenge after Højbjerg had seemed to have sent Kane clear on goal.
