The hosts have completely gone off the boil since going behind and Solskjaer is deep in conversation with Mike Phelan on the touchline. Changes are coming at half-time surely?

Manchester United look bizarrely rattled and almost gift the visitors another chance as McGoldrick picks of a loose pass and bursts forward in a three-on-three. The Irishman can’t quite make something of it, but Sheffield United will be so encouraged by the opening 36 minutes of this game.

Martial tucks the ball home after Ramsdale spills a corner under pressure from Maguire, but the whistle had gone and the goal won’t stand. There’s not a vast amount of difference between that contact and the challenge on De Gea, although the key difference is probably that the Sheffield stopper had the ball in his grasp whereas United’s keeper hadn’t got there yet.

McGoldrick almost gets in on goal but his touch is slightly too heavy and De Gea rushes to the edge of his area to claim. The forward suggests he was pulled back in that move, and he has a bit of a point, but there wasn’t enough for any decision (or lack of decision) to be overturned on video evidence.

Manchester United seemed to get a little bit too comfortable a little bit too early in this game after their strong start and the visitors did superbly to take advantage.

GOOOAALLL!!! Sheffield United take the lead and you can’t say it wasn’t coming! A corner is whipped into a crowded six-yard-box and David de Gea fails to get off the ground as Kean Bryan heads home. The keeper will claim that he was fouled there, but VAR doesn’t overrule and the goal stands. 1-0.

Sheffield United get forward again and a cross floats towards the dangerously-unmarked McGoldrick. Tuanzebe manages to get a touch to divert it away from the forward, but that’s another scare for the home side – they need to switch on and fast.
17'
That’s a timely reminder for Man Utd that they need to make sure they convert their dominance into goals. The visitors haven’t done much, but that was by far the best chance of the game so far.

Out of absolutely nowhere the visitors carve United wide open as a ball around the corner puts Sharp through one-on-one. Telles does well to force the forward wide, but it still takes a good save with an outstretched boot by David de Gea to keep the score at 0-0.

The early possession stats are a sorry sight. The hosts have completely dominated the opening stages, with Sheffield United camped deep in their own half and barely able to keep hold of the ball.

So close to an opener for United. Rashford finds Greenwood, who in turn feeds Wan-Bissaka out on the right. The full-back’s delivery picks out Rashford who had continued his run to the edge of the box, but the forward’s shot slides marginally wide.

United are bossing the early stages with Paul Pogba pulling the strings in a slightly deeper role than usual in the centre of the park. It’s great to see him in the sort of form he’s been in of late, he’s such a good player when he’s on it.

Martial is back on but that's something to keep an eye on.

Not the ideal start for Anthony Martial, who has picked up an injury inside the opening 90 seconds. It’s something to do with his right shoulder and he’s not looking happy at all. The physios are on and it’s 50-50 if he’ll be able to continue.

Sheffield United, kitted out in their pink away strip, get the game underway at a now familiarly-empty Old Trafford.
In other news, Paul Pogba is set for talks with the Manchester United chiefs about his future at the club, according to reports.
Sheffield United are rooted to the bottom of the table with just five points from 19 games and with any faint hopes of survival all-but extinguished. If the Blades replicate their form through the second half of the season they will become the worst team in Premier League history (Derby County with 11 points in 2007-08 currently hold that record).
United (the Manchester ones) suffered the ignominy of seeing their city neighbours go above them last night, but Solskjaer’s side can regain the Premier League lead with a win this evening.
