There will be 21 other players on the field tonight but, when you sit back and think of the enormity of what he’s done, it’s only right that we take another moment to praise Rashford. Even if he became the first United player to score seven goals in a game tonight, it would be a footnote compared to his achievements earlier this week. What a magnificent young person he is.
19:50
By contrast United were on an excellent run before the suspension of the season, unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions and having just beaten cross-town rivals Manchester City for the third time in four months. Fernandes had slotted into the team perfectly since his arrival in January and Solskjaer had relocated the momentum he had generated after initially taking the United job on a temporary basis in December 2018. Can the visitors tap straight back into that kind of form tonight?
19:45
Prior to the break, Jose Mourinho’s team were on a miserable run of form. Spurs hadn’t won in six in all competitions and were eliminated from the FA Cup and the Champions League, by Norwich and RB Leipzig respectively. Kane and Son were out with long term injuries and Spurs were drifting away from the Champions League qualifying places. Tonight’s restart does present itself as a chance for a reset for the hosts.
19:40
The thing that has felt most reassuringly familiar since the return of football so far has been the row over the use of technology in the goalless draw between Aston Villa and Sheffield United on Wednesday. That result kept Manchester United in fifth position in the Premier League. Tonight’s hosts lag four points behind United in eighth. A victory for Spurs is essential if they are to challenge for a Champions League place in the remainder of this season.
19:35
Manchester United have players returning too. National hero Marcus Rashford has recovered from a double stress fracture to the back suffered in January and goes straight back into United’s attack. Paul Pogba, who has only started six times this season due to persistent injury, is back in the squad but takes a place on the bench. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has decided to keep faith with the midfield Bruno Fernandes, Fred and Scott McTominay.
19:30
The big news for Tottenham is that Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, both unavailable to Mourinho before the Coronavirus crisis suspended football, return to the team. Eric Dier will start in the centre of defence ahead of Toby Alderweireld, who is on the bench.
