The Warm-Up: Aaron Ramsey might be the perfect player for Unai Emery's Arsenal

Plus perhaps the players are the problem at Chelsea, beIN SPORTS *might* start covering Oldham Athletic, Stephan El Shaarawy’s impeccable taste, and the fan who two-footed his own player.

MONDAY’S BIG STORIES

Arsenal produced one of their most complete performances of the season…

…but the architect of it all is on his way to Juventus.
Aaron Ramsey is not perfect. However, Arsenal’s decision to allow him to leave on a free transfer is looking more bizarre by the minute.
The Welshman, operating just behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, produced a performance that justified Juventus’ decision to throw nearly 300,000-per-week at the 28-year-old.
Unai Emery has struggled to fit both Aubameyang and Lacazette in their favoured positions in same team this season but with Ramsey positioned just behind them, there was far more cohesion to Arsenal’s play, as Ramsey marries guile with industry, allowing Arsenal the balance Emery craves.
Yet, for reasons unknown*, Arsenal are letting him leave on a free despite him being the perfect player for Emery's system.
*actually that is a lie. The reason is known – Arsenal handed the mercurial Mesut Ozil £300,000-per-week to sit on the bench. Look, Ozil has his critics but he is obviously a world class player. So, truth be told, there is no issue handing him that sort of money.
What is unconscionable is the complete lack of foresight at the club – give Ozil that sort of money by all means but then at least employ a manager who will indulge him. Emery won't. And now after handing Ozil all that money the club have taken the decision to let a playmaker, Ramsey, who seems to suit Emery’s system go.
Madness.

Maybe just maybe it is the Chelsea players that are at fault

Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte are fairly combustible characters. So it is probably advisable to take any criticism of their players with a pinch of salt.

However, when Maurizio Sarri, a coach who managed to motivate Gonzalo Higuain, reverts to his native tongue of Italian to savage his players, then well, maybe, just maybe, there is a pattern and the issue lies with the players.
I have to say that I'm extremely angry because this defeat was due to our mentality.
We played against a team that mentally was far more determined than we were and this is something I can't accept.
The fact of the matter is I'm finding that this group of players is extremely difficult to motivate.
However, as this is Chelsea, Roman Abramovich will probably just sack Sarri and appoint Guus Hiddink until the end of the season.

beIN SPORTS *might* start covering Oldham Athletic

Spoiler Alert: They probably won’t.
However, recently sacked Jose Mourinho has been doing some punditry with the Qatari broadcaster, and if The Warm-Up knows one thing about Mourinho it is that he likes to settle scores.
And Mourinho has a score to settle with one Paul Scholes, and one Paul Scholes is on the cusp of taking charge of Oldham Athletic.
Now, it was common knowledge that Mourinho was unhappy with some of the criticisms aimed at his United side by former players, and has previously name checked the former United midfielder.
So should Scholes take the job and should Oldham struggle under his direction then don’t be surprised if Oldham get name checked on beIN SPORTS.

IN THE CHANNELS

Stephan El Shaarawy has always been an individual of impeccable taste and that was again in evidence on Sunday night when the AS Roma star rocked up to the Masters Finals between Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump.
#eurosportsnooker indeed.

HEROES AND ZEROES

Hero: This two-footing fan

This Charlton fan, who put in one of the best reducers you will ever see on one of their own players while celebrating a goal is the definition of a hero.
Knee high. Glorious.

Zero: Mauricio Pochettino

The Tottenham boss is probably the most sought after coach in world football right now with both Real Madrid and Manchester United keen to appoint the Spurs boss in the not-too-distant future.
However, he has criminally underused Fernando Llorente this season, often leaving the World Cup winner on the bench as Spurs were winning games by three-plus goals.
And that decision has come back to haunt Spurs now they need the 33-year-old firing on all cylinders with Harry Kane out injured. The former Swansea man is just not match sharp and that lack of sharpness was in full evidence in a laboured performance against Fulham.
The forward scored an own goal and struggled throughout as Tottenham stole a last-ditch 2-1 comeback win at the league’s second-from-bottom club.

HAT-TIP

So, Aurelio De Laurentiis is an interesting fella; while Rory Smith is an interesting writer. Put those two things together, and, well, you get gems such as the following:
De Laurentiis would like, he said, to change the way prize money is handed out by the major leagues. He thinks underperformance should not be rewarded. Rather, he thinks it should be punished. You finish first, you get €100 million, for example, he says. You finish second, you earn €50 million, and so on. But if you finish last, you pay a fine.

COMING UP...

Bolton Wanderers take on West Bromwich Albion in the Championship – a win the Baggies would see them move to within four points of first-place Leeds United.
