Hello and welcome to Eurosport's LIVE text commentary of the Premier League clash between Tottenham and Cardiff at Wembley. Mauricio Pochettino is still having flashbacks of Lionel Messi terrorising his defenders on Wednesday but the Argentine, and his defence, are hoping to sleep better tonight: Spurs are strong favourites to return to winning ways this afternoon. Neil Warnock and Cardiff's Premier League return has been far from a dream - goals have been a real problem and it is a big ask to claim their first victory of the season today. Kick-off is 45 minutes away.

NO PENALTY!
Hoilett takes a tumble in the box as Cardiff continue to enjoy a good spell in the game. Mike Dean is well positioned and waves play on. To be fair, there was no appeal from Hoilett who appeared to lose his footing at the crucial moment.

OFF THE LINE!
Agonisingly close to a Cardiff equaliser! Paterson rises highest to win a header and flick the ball into the path of Murphy. He has the beating of Rose and then lifts the ball over Lloris! However, Alderweireld comes to the rescue as he hacks it off the line, beating Hoilett who was ready to pounce!

SHOT!
Sissoko has came in from the cold for Spurs and he has done OK so far. The former Newcastle man charges to the by-line and pulls it back for Lucas who takes a touch before drilling a low shot a goal. It's too hot to handle for Etheridge at the first time of asking but he gathers himself quickly to smother the loose ball.

LUCAS IS LIVELY

Tottenham have enjoyed 80 per cent of possession so far, which demonstrates the home side's dominance. It could be a long day for Warnock's side.

Cardiff are six points worse off at this stage than in their last Premier League campaign which ended in relegation.

SAVE!
Cardiff's lack of quality in attack has been well documented but their defence has been so poor too. They all stand flat-footed as Lucas dances his way into the penalty area and he's allowed to roll it to Sanchez. He shoots but Etheridge comes to the rescue with a fine reaction stop.

What does Warnock do? The Cardiff manager's facial expressions when his side conceded the goal said it all. It was a simple set-piece to defend but his players weren't up to the job. His gameplan has been spoilt already.
12'
Son is struggling for form but he has been lively in the opening exchanges here. His shot from range is blocked but he's quickest to react to the loose ball and drives to the by-line. But his cross is too close to the goalkeeper and Etheridge smothers at his near post.

SAVE!
Arter won't get too many shooting opportunities today but he doesn't make the most of this chance. He finds space on the edge of the box to have a crack but opts to try to curl it into the corner but Lloris is comfortably behind it.

GOAL! Tottenham 1-0 Cardiff
Spurs lead with their first effort on goal! Trippier plays the corner short, receives the ball back and swings a cross into the box. The unmarked Sanchez sees his header deflected into the path of Dier who slots it home from close range. Terrible defending.

Better from Spurs. Trippier's dink over the top of the Cardiff back-line has Sissoko chasing. He gets it under control and tries to cut it back for Son at the back post but Morrison makes the intervention.
4'
Murphy makes a clever run behind the Spurs defence but the threaded through-pass to him is slightly overcooked. A casual start from the hosts.
3'
What a start that would have been. Cardiff are clearly desperate for goals and there is absolutely no problem in trying something different.
2'
SHOT!
An ambitious start from Cardiff to say the least! Murphy shoots straight from kick-off but fails to find the target. Lloris was off his line.

KICK-OFF!
Cardiff have lost their last five games, conceding 17 goals in the process. It's the visitors who get us and off running and they will need to be much improved to get anything here.

SPURS STRUGGLES
Tottenham are on a four-match winless home run in all competitions for the first time since April-May 2011.

Warnock was left scratching his head after the 2-1 reverse loss to Burnley last Sunday.
"I don't know how we didn't win last week, but that is life in the Premier League, you've just got to get on with it," he said.
"It was a positive performance other than the result and I thought once again the fans were superb. I'm sure we'll be filling our allocation at Wembley, because they have been pretty amazing away from home as well."

Cardiff are still winless after seven games having only garnered two points, but Pochettino isn't taking their challenge lightly.
"The most difficult game is the game that everyone believes, outside of the team, that you must win," he said.
"For us it's so important to be motivated at the same level. If not we're going to struggle."
