Hello and welcome to Eurosport's LIVE text commentary of the Premier League contest between Newcastle and Tottenham. After a frustrating summer in terms of transfers for both clubs, Rafa Benitez and Mauricio Pochettino will be relieved that football is back and we can all focus on the on-field stuff. Newcastle are yet to break their transfer record set back in 2005 and the lack of activity has left fans and managers feeling underwhelmed. And if you thought that was bad, Spurs were the first Premier League club not to sign anyone in the summer window since 2003! Thankfully, we will have some actual football to talk about this afternoon, though. Kick-off is 12:30pm.

FULL-TIME
And there is the final whistle. Spurs hold on for an opening day victory over Newcastle for the second consecutive season.
Diame is cautioned for a foul on Kane.
Yellow card
T. Horava
Newcastle may have to play the remainder of stoppage time with just 10 men as Yedlin leaves the pitch hobbling.
There will be FOUR minutes of additional time. And perhaps slightly longer as Yedlin continues to receive attention.
A worrying moment for Newcastle as Yedlin goes down to receive treatment for what appears to be a knee problem. Remember, the home side have already used all three of their subs.
TOTTENHAM SUB: Luke Amos, who had a fine pre-season, replaces the tiring Dier for the last couple of minutes of normal time.
OFF THE CROSSBAR!
Oh my, nearly a debut goal for Rondon! He does everything right but is missing that bit of luck needed to score. He kills Shelvey's cross to set himself up for the shot and his dipping volley takes a deflection off Vertonghen, smashing off the crossbar and away to safety.
A promising Newcastle move comes to a desperately disappointing end. Atsu drives forward in a central position and he has Rondon making a run into space but his forward pass is to absolutely no one.
Muto's first contribution is to win a corner for his new team, but the resulting set-piece is headed clear by Spurs.
NEWCASTLE SUB: Yoshinori Muta makes his debut for the hosts, as he makes his way onto the pitch to repalce Perez for the final nine remaining minutes.

TOTTENHAM SUB: Alli slowly makes his way off the pitch to be replaced by Heung-Min Son. His first-half header could yet prove to be decisive.
Atsu drives down the right and picks out Rondon in the area. Under pressure from Sanchez, he just about manages to get a shot away but doesn't connect with it cleanly and Lloris collects.
Shelvey attempts a clever through-pass to Yedlin but Lloris is quick off his line to clear his lines.
The game has gone rather flat. Those substitutes appear to have disrupted the flow of the match, but Newcastle still have just over 15 minutes to find an equaliser.
Dembele's 16-month wait (!) for a goal continues as he blasts the ball over the crossbar from the edge of the penalty area.
TOTTENHAM SUB: Dier stays on the pitch and instead Moura makes way for Moussa Dembele.

NEWCASTLE SUB: Atsu replaces Ritchie in the home side's midfield.

Tottenham have a free-kick. Eriksen delivers but it's too close to the goalkeeper. Dier is about to come off, it seems - Pochettino isn't going to trust the midfielder not to be shown a second yellow.
