Chris Hughton, who joked he would welcome Hazard being on the bench again, has demanded an improved performance from his players after a below-par display in Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Southampton dragged them back into relegation danger.
“Most importantly, we want a response from our players,” he said.
“If you can get a performance at one of the big clubs away from home, it gives you a chance, it keeps you in the game.
“We know that we are reliant on playing well and the opposition playing poorly – anything different to that then the top-six teams are generally always going to win.”

Sarri has appealed to Chelsea’s disgruntled supporters to hold back on boos against his management for the good of the team following some chants of “We want, Sarri out" against Cardiff.
“They have to help the players during the match,” he said. “After the match they can say anything but during the match I hope they will be able to help. We are a group. At the moment, we are a very good group.
"So I think it’s not helpful for my players. For me it’s not a big problem. I’m not happy but it’s not a big problem. I am 60, so I can understand. But when I was 25, probably it was different.
“I am not happy but I am not concerned. It can happen. I can understand very well the frustration of our fans. But, in the end, we are not doing so badly. During this season, we have won 33 matches [in all competitions]. In England, only Manchester City did better than us. We know we need to improve our performances. Probably we started very well and so our fans thought everything was really very easy for us. It’s not."

Maurizio Sarri’s side have lost just one Premier League home game so far this season (Leicester in December), and have kept six clean sheets in our past nine at Stamford Bridge, conceding three goals in total during this period.
And Brighton have not kept a clean sheet in each of their last 10 away league games.

The big news is Hudson-Odoi makes his first Premier League start following his England debut last week. Rudiger, Barkley, Higuain and Kovacic are on the bench following the controversial win over Cardiff with Emerson, Giroud and Hazard, Kante, Loftus-Cheek and Christensen starting.
