Football news - Paper Round: Man Utd could lose De Gea and Sanchez, Real Madrid still want Poch
ByTNT Sports
Manchester United fear they could lose both David De Gea and Alexis Sanchez, whilst Real Madrid still want Mauricio Pochettino. It's Friday's Paper Round.
Mourinho fears De Gea departure
We begin with reports from The Times and The Sun, one of which is on the back page and one which is an exclusive. The reports both claim that Manchester United and Jose Mourinho are worried that they could lose David De Gea on a free to Juventus.
The reports say that United fear De Gea will not sign a new deal and will leave instead, and Juventus have emerged as a leading candidate. De Gea's contract is up at the end of the season and the reports says Juventus will wait even if United take up their option to extend it by one year.
Paper Round's view: From United's perspective this would be an absolute catastrophe. De Gea is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, if not the best, and to lose him on a free would be a disaster. For Juventus it would be a dream signing, and perhaps their best free transfer swoop. Even if they have to act and sign him at a cut-price fee it would be excellent.
Sanchez wants PSG move
We move to The Mirror with yet another report that Alexis Sanchez wants out of Manchester United. Sanchez only joined United in January, but he's reportedly unhappy amid criticism of his performances. Sanchez's representatives have sounded out PSG over a potential move, with the French club one of the few across Europe who could afford his wages.
Paper Round's view: Losing both Sanchez and De Gea soon after one another wouldn't be a great look for United. It doesn't seem that long ago that United were being heralded for pipping rivals Manchester City to the signing of the Chilean. The move simply hasn't worked out and perhaps it would be better for United to cut their losses?
Real still want Poch
We continue with an exclusive from The Sun which says that Real Madrid are making a last-ditch attempt to prise Mauricio Pochettino out of North London. Real are likely to sack Julen Lopetegui and while Antonio Conte remains the favourite Madrid still want to sign Pochettino if they can. It is still unclear whether Tottenham's stance has softened or not.
Paper Round's view: Pochettino would make an excellent appointment for Real Madrid, but it seems highly unlikely that Spurs are going to let him out of his contract. It's a long-term thing and they are not going to want to lose their manager just before they move into a new stadium.
Spurs want Pope
And sticking with Spurs we end in The Mirror who report that the North London side want to sign Burnley's Nick Pope. Pochettino is considering his options between the sticks and even if Pope were to join as a back-up it would be a boost to the home-grown quota at the club.
Paper Round's view: It seems like Michel Vorm will be leaving Spurs at the end of the season and they will need another goalkeeper. Pope showed last season with Burnley that he has the capabilities of being a Premier League starter when called upon.
