Milner bursts through on goal after Norwich give the ball away needlessly in central midfield, but a combination of Martin and Rudd manage to block his route to goal and force him to shoot wide.

Norwich will be furious about that goal. Their offside trap was all over the place and despite a bright start to the game they find themselves a goal down against a Liverpool side who appear set up to counter-attack.

GOOOAAALLL!!! Firmino puts Liverpool 1-0 up. Slipped in on goal by Milner, he beats the offside trap and dribbles a shot in off the far post. Rudd got a foot to it and almost sent the shot wide, but Liverpool are ahead.
16'
Declan Rudd gave his centre-back a long hard stare after that and it's not hard to see why!
15'
Firmino very nearly catches out Bassong as the centre-back struggles to hold him away from a long ball over the top. Liverpool's false number nine gets a toe to the ball, but he isn't able to control his shot and sends it looping over the bar.
14'
Fluid they may not be, but Norwich are playing well here. Their intensity is higher and the presence of Naismith is encouraging the other attacking players to operate at a higher tempo. We're still waiting for a clear chance though.

Ibe at least poses some sort of threat for Liverpool as he is dispossessed on the edge of the box. It's hardly something to get excited about, but it's far more dangerous than anything else the visitors have cobbled together in the opening moments of the game.

Redmond certainly is 'flamey' or 'fire' or whatever it is the cool kids say. As you can probably guess, I'm not one of them, but let's not allow that to distract from the winger's promising start to the game.

It's Redmond again who poses the most obvious threat to Liverpool, skinning Moreno and dragging the ball back across the face of goal. There's nobody there to finish, but it's encouraging for the Canaries.
6'
Redmond is a handy player. The winger has Moreno in his sights today and has been the brightest spark in an encouraging start for the hosts.

Lucas and Naismith crunch into a tackle, but the ref keeps his cards in his pocket for now. Norwich's new boy clearly hasn't forgotten his Merseyside allegiances!
4'
Liverpool haven't been able to get going, struggling to keep hold of the ball and looking vulnerable at the back when exposed to Norwich's pace out wide. Kolo Toure in particular looks leaden-footed... which won't come as a surprise to many.
2'
It's been a slow start to the game, with Norwich content to string together passes in midfield to feel their way into the match.

Norwich get the game underway, kitted out in their usual yellow and green. Liverpool are in their traditional all-red strip.
12:40
Kick-off is just five minutes away as the players emerge from the tunnel at a fresh Carrow Road. Naismith makes his debut for the hosts, while Liverpool don't have a recognised striker on the pitch... although Steven Caulker is on the bench.
