So how do these sides compare in their head-to-heads? Well, Newcastle have only lost one of the last 12 home league meetings (W6, D5). West Ham have won two of the last three encounters, including a 2-0 triumph at Upton Park in September.

Newcastle will have both Henri Saivet and Jonjo Shelvey available to make their debuts for the club, but Steve McClaren opts to hand Shelvey his first start. Emmanuel Riviere featured for the reserves this week, and is handed a spot on the bench.

Andy Carroll does not face his former side, as the West Ham striker suffered a hamstring injury against Bournemouth - he is now expected to miss as much as six weeks. With both Manuel Lanzini and Diafra Sakho already sidelined, that restricts Slaven Bilic's options considerably.

However, Victor Moses is fit to be involved in the matchday squad after a spell out with a hamstring strain. He is on the bench. Cheikhou Kouyate starts, but Mauro Zarate remains out after shaking off slight knocks that kept them out in midweek.
