A speculative effort from 25 yards from Ritchie trickles wide. A disappointing end to a lightning break from the home side who have looked positive and aggressive in their attacking play. Moments before Joshua King was shown a yellow card for a bad challenge.

Marc Pugh gets his head onto Simon Francis' pin point right footed cross but he can't direct it at all goalwards. A half chance for the promoted side.

Matt Ritchie looks lively for Bournemouth, a key man in their promotion last season he looks to have taken well to Premier League football so far.

Villa getting their foot on the ball now. Little in the way of creativity and chances created from either side but the ball's been played well along the floor.
13'
Tim Sherwood looking dapper on the touchline. Blue shirt, top button undone and sleeves rolled up. He means business.
10'
No early jitters from the home side, they've started positively. Playing the ball out along the floor, probing the Villa defence well. A lack of cutting edge perhaps but they've settled well all the same.

Bournemouth win a corner, they've started positively here. But Matt Ritchie's cross is flicked over by Andrew Surman.

Micah Richards showing his qualities early on with his strength and pace. Sherwood's made him captain, no less, today. And it's a positive start from the England international.

It looks like a glorious summer's day down in Bournemouth. Hopefully the players can keep up the early hustle and bustle throughout the 90 minutes.

And they're off. Welcome to the Premier League, Bournemouth.

The players are out on the south coast and kick off is imminent here.

Bournemouth are one of the more fascinating clubs this season. If they manage to survive then Eddie Howe's reputation as one of the best young coaches around will expand rapidly. They've got a long season ahead of them but appear keen to stick to their football principles and play good football.

Welcome to the Premier League etc
14:40
And here's Tim Sherwood: "We've got a lot of new players through the door. Some will adapt quicker than others. Time will tell which ones do that. It's my job to gel them. In an ideal world, we'd have liked to have them in a little bit earlier but that's not always possible. I'll spend as much time with them now. They're only young boys so they are still open minded to the new manager's thoughts. They might be gelled already. You don't know. Until we're on the stage we don't know how far off we are."
14:35
Here's what Eddie How had to say this week: "We feel the team's ready. Now we've just got to go out and prove that we're good enough. I'm not saying we're going to score 98 goals, but we're certainly going to go at it the same way in terms of how we approach the games. We're going to be brave and we're going to try to take games to teams. That's our way, that's what we've become accustomed to, that's what our players expect us to do. To veer away from that format I think would be foolish on the back of all the success we've had."
14:30
The same, however, cannot be said of Aston Villa. Tim Sherwood fields five summer signings: Micah Richards, Jordan Amavi, Jordan Veretout, Idrissa Gueye and Jordan Ayew. Not in the Villa team are Fabian Delph and Christian Benteke. If you missed it, they left this summer.
14:25
So no debut for Sylvain Distin from the start as the big summer signing is on the bench, along with £8m Tyrone Mings and newest arrival Max Gradel. So Howe comes good on his promise to stick with the players who won the club promotion.
