Southampton - West Ham United live updates

Southampton lie third in the table despite having lost three of their last six Premier League home matches. A win could move them to within a point of Man City depending on what happens at Stoke. West Ham are eighth in the table but will move to within two points of Liverpool with victory.

Ronald Koeman: "I think West Ham have always options to play in a different style and what you have to do as a manager is to play with the best qualities what the players have. The easiest way to attack is a long ball, like we do sometimes. We play a long ball to [Graziano] Pellè. That means in one pass you are close to the box of the opponent and you can bring the pressing to the opponent at that time. I prefer always to play football but sometimes it’s a good option if you have a players like [Andy] Carroll, or Manchester United do with [Marouane] Fellaini."

Match stat: Southampton have conceded the fewest Premier League goals this season (17) and no side has kept more clean sheets. Both Saints and league leaders Chelsea have 11.

So Morgan Schneiderlin misses out for Southampton through injury, as does Kevin Nolan for West Ham. James Tomkins starts after breaking his nose but Andy Carroll makes the bench after shaking off his knee injury. Gardos and Reed start for Saints whilst Carlton Cole and Morgan Amalfitano start for the Hammers.
