Mark Hughes: "When people sense there is a little bit of pressure building then everybody jumps on the bandwagon and tries to add to it, which is unfair. But that happens to all of us. It's not something Brendan is unaware of. He understands how it works. But when you lose the services of two strikers such as Suarez and Sturridge, then it's going to impact on you. There were only three players in the Premier League last season who scored more than 20 goals, and Liverpool had two of them. So that shows where their season was built - on the back of two outstanding strikers. They haven't had their services this year so it's going to take a big part of their game away from them."

Confirmation there that Arsenal have beaten West Brom in the early kick-off to go into fourth spot. Liverpool will go level with Everton and Tottenham with a win today.

Brendan Rodgers: "We are hoping that our season began the other night and obviously it will only count if we can take it into tomorrow's game. It is a different challenge because everything has been hunky dory for about 18 months. It is a different deck of cards we have this year, we just need to focus on the now. I said to the players, 'what's happened before has gone, we haven't been on a good run, but let that be the making of us'."

With Gerrard sat on the bench, Jordan Henderson captains Liverpool today. What a moment that is for him. The Reds start the day in 12th place remember, with four points from 12 games.
