Cambiasso misses an open goal! Mignolet's clearance is woeful, straight at the Argentine, whose casual effort from 25 yards rolls wide. He simply HAD to score!

Gerrard clears the free-kick as far as Schlupp, who has another dig, but this time it's a wayward effort.

Good attack by Leicester as Schlupp has a go from 25 yards, which deflects out for another Leicester corner.

Big chance for Liverpool! On the counter-attack, Gerrard finds Lambert on the right. His low cross finds Sterling and the winger pokes it past Schmeichel but loses his shooting angle.

It's the Liverpool fans making all the noise at a quiet King Power stadium.

Liverpool caught a little cold at the back as Leicester burst forward. The ball reaches Vardy, but the striker takes his shot very early and snatches at it, sending it well wide.

Judging by that example of Sterling vs De Laet, Liverpool will be looking to get the ball to the England man at the earliest opportunity.

Gerrard fizzes the set-piece into the box but Skrtel cannot get the touch he intended and Leicester have the goal kick.

A brilliant turn of pace gets Sterling away from De Laet, who drags the Liverpool winger down just outside the box. Liverpool free-kick.

A somewhat nervy start by a Liverpool side who are desperate not to lose here. Will they build on the vital win over Stoke at the weekend?

Leicester force the first corner of the game. Liverpool defend it well but Gerrard's hoof goes straight back to the Foxes.

Both sides scrapping for possession early on.

Liverpool have started on the front foot here. Lambert swings in a decent early cross from the right, but it's just ahead of Gerrard.

Brendan Rodgers on Steven Gerrard contract offer: "The latest is he has been offered a contract here and at this moment in time that is where it is at. In what he has done in his 16 years here (in the first team) he is a man who deserves the utmost respect and time to consider that. It is a big move not just in his life but in terms of committing where his next contract is going to be. There are probably many things Steven would have to think about in a decision like this but it certainly won't be money."

Pearson: "It's a good game for us. It comes quickly after the last game, we've not had many midweek games this season. Preparation is slightly different from normal. The players are used to playing back-to-back games through being in the Championship."
