Pienaar broke through the middle as West Ham had committed players forward. He tries to play in Baines on the left but Jarvis tracked the run all the way and clears for a corner. Barry meets the corner but can't direct it goalwards as it flies well wide of the right post.

Demel thought he saw a way past Distin close to the right touchline. He was wrong and the veteran Frenchman eases his compatriot out of the way.

Baines' first corner is poor and cleared high but Taylor heads behind. His second goes short to Barry who plays it back to McCarthy on the egde of the box. His drive is blocked.

Deolefeu with some stepovers on the right wing. He fools McCartney and gets his cross in but it doesn't get beyond Tomkins at the near post who clears for a corner.

Scrappy period of tackles and misplaced passes and headers. Eventually Jarvis breaks on the right wing and whips a cross in which comes off Coleman who didn't know much about it and Howard comes out to collect the ball.

Tomkins picks up a yellow card after sliding through the back of Osman. He may have got the ball first but you can't tackle like that anymore.

Nolan almost pokes it in at the near post after a quick cross from McCartney.

Downing storms past Stones and just for a second looks like he might get a free run at goal but Coleman uses his pace to sprint back and clear up before Downing could get going.

Early substitution. Andy Carroll is coming on for Carlton Cole. He doesn't appear injured but he also doesn't look too happy.

Everton stroking the ball about through Barry and McCarthy in the middle but again West Ham find their shape and stick to their tasks, not allowing Everton through.

West Ham enjoying some possession. They work the ball well down the right with Demel finding Nolan in the box. He spins Distin and gets a cross in but Howard is out to collect.

The little Spaniard is in the thick of it again and tries to force a difficult pass through to Naismith on the edge of the area but the Scot wasn't expecting it and the ball flies out for a goal kick.

Baines gets into the penalty area on the left and squares the ball to Deolefeu but the shot is blocked by Collins.

Deolefeu is dispossessed by Nolan on the right wing but when the ball is played up to Cole it just doesn't stick and back come the Toffees.

Save by Adrian! McCarthy slips a lovely ball through the middle to Naismith who is taken a bit wide by the pass. He tries first time on his left foot towards the near post but Adrian got two big hands on it to save well to his right.

Everton have slowed the game right down. Keeping the ball well but not going to far with it.

Coleman breaks down the left and floats a ball in to the far post where Osman is lurking but Demel does enough to head clear.

Nolan almost in! A long ball is flicked on by Cole who finds the on-rushing Nolan through the middle. He looks to have been felled by Barry as he was bursting in to the penalty area but neither Jonathan Moss nor his assistant give anything.

West Ham have loads of bodies back as Osman tries a ridiculously intricate bit of play to feed Naismith on the edge of the area. His scoop over the top runs through to Adrian.

Demel defends well against Naismith and passes to Jarvis up the line but his touch lets him down and gifts possession back to Everton.

Pienaar is doing a lot of roaming early on. The ball is with Baines on the left who tries a one-two with Pienaar but Demel does well to block.
