Sunderland struggle to clear the ball in the corner, and Palace fail to press as Wickham breaks down the left. Eventually he's crowded out and Palace attack down the right before losing the ball again.

Dikgacoi lets fly but Westwood tips the ball over for a corner. Williams takes, but it's punted out for a throw in Palace's half.

Larsson's cross to the back post is headed clear, and Sunderland pump the ball back to Johnson on the right, and it's out for a goal kick.

Gabbidon trips Fletcher as he runs away from goal, and Sunderland have free kick on the corner of the area. That wasn't a bright move.

Gabbidon and Speroni struggle with a high ball to Fletcher. Gabbidon bounced into Fletcher, and is in truth lucky to not give away a penalty.

Di Canio urges on his team, but they must surely be too miserable, and without enough players, to carry this out.

Williams strike is beaten away by the keeper. A moment later another Williams shot is stopped by Westwood.

Chamakh is down now, and Palace make two changes to protect the lead. Chamakh is off and O'Keefe is on. The other substitution sees Gayle replaced by Wilbraham.

GOAL! Gayle takes the penalty. He looks nervous, but hits the ball low, underneath Westwood's poor dive. He should have saved that, it went between his knees and elbows, but Palace won't care.

PENALTY! O'Shea gives away a ludicrous foul. A loose ball runs for Gayle, bursting forward. A late, clumsy foul he didn't need to make, and the referee decides he's also the last defender, and he's off!

The corner is cleared with two headers, and finally by Williams and Moxey, and Palace break forward. Dikgacoi gives away the ball, and eventualy Westwood slides to get hold of a loose ball that Gayle was chasing.

Very close for Sunderland. A long ball is aimed towards Fletcher, but Gabbidon comes in at the last to nick the ball behind, just past the post.

The teams swap possession in the midfield, but both do little with it.

Chamakh intelligently pulls the ball back for Williams as Palace break. He has time, space... and no accuracy. The ball goes well wide.

Puncheon skips past Colback but Diakite intercepts his low cross. Palace attack from the right now, and Diakite collects another cross, sending it long to Mavrias.
