It took City a while to get going but they ultimately secure the points over an under strength Wigan side.

Messy play from Nastasic sees Di Santo creep across the box, but it's only a goal kick. Zabaleta goes down with a knock but eventually gets to his feet. Stam is replaced by Callum McManaman for Wigan.

Barry and Silva still have plenty of energy in the middle, whereas Wigan just want the final whistle to come.

A forward run by Toure earns another corner for City. Kolarov takes the corner kick but Wigan head clear.

Silva and Zabaleta, yes Zabaleta, break forward and City look for a third but the little Spaniard elects not to play in the Argentine. Kolarov eventually receives the ball and a long cross finds no-one.

Then Di Santo fouls Barry who looks less happy about the challenge and referee Halsey has to have a word with the Wigan man.

Adrian Lopez is penalised for a foul on Yaya Toure near the halfway line. City happy to see the clock ticking down.

If City can keep the scoreline like this it will be a sixth successive win against their Lancashire neighbours without conceding a goal.

Wigan try to be clever from the corner which results with them giving away a free kick on the edge of the box.

Yet another half chance for Kone in the City box, before his close range shot is blocked by Nastasic.

Sadly for Milner his night doesn't last long and he has to be replaced by Kolo Toure. He can watch the replays of that superb goal to cheer himself up.

After his great goal Milner is down with a hamstring injury.

Another surging run sees Toure cover the length of the field and get into the Wigan box after a one-two with Silva, before firing over.

Toure makes a strong run on the right and crosses for Balotelli but it drops to Maicon who hits a left footed shot wide of the target. That could easily have been a third.

With just under fifteen minutes to go Wigan look deflated. City have stepped up a notch and all their players look hungry for the ball.

James McArthur comes on for Jones as Wigan try to shake things up.

Mancini will be delighted to see Milner make that impact. Silva fed Barry on the edge of the box and the former Villa man found another former Villa midfielder in space to make it 2-0.
