Stoke City (5) have picked up fewer points in 2013 so far than any other team in the Premier League. Tony Pulis’ side have had just 94 shots on target this season; a joint-league low with Reading (before they played Southampton earlier).

Only Southampton (27) and Reading (23) have lost more points from losing positions this season than Aston Villa (21).

The last four Premier League games between these two sides have finished in draws; with just four goals being scored. Stoke have won just one of their last six league games at the Britannia Stadium (D3 L2).

Darren Bent, on his way back to fitness, is on the bench for Villa. Defender Ciaran Clark suffered a shoulder injury while on international duty for the Republic of Ireland and misses a second game in succession. Midfielder Brett Holman (hamstring) is available again and on the bench but defender Chris Herd and winger Marc Albrighton (both foot) plus defender Richard Dunne (groin) remain on the casualty list.

Kenwyne Jones comes back into the Stoke attack for Peter Crouch while Winger Matthew Etherington returns from brief groin and back injuries.
